Welcome to Day 1 of the PokerStars.it EPT Sanremo €10,300 High Roller

The PokerStars.it EPT Sanremo Season 10 is entering its closing weekend, and while the Main Event is playing down from 39 to the final 16 today — which you can follow by clicking here — it's also the day the €10,000 High Roller kicks off.

The three-day event is the last €10,000 High Roller of the season as Monte Carlo's features buy-ins of €25,000 and €100,000. Of course those hefty buy-ins attract a certain type of player, whereas the "more affordable" €10,000 often attracts hopeful amateurs looking to take their shot at poker glory. As such, we expect a slew of Italian players to enter the field.

On Thursday night, a satellite for this event was held that attracted 97 players, 28 rebuys and 83 add-ons for €100,880 prize pool. That awarded nine seats into the High Roller — one of which went to former PCA runner-up Chris Oliver — with tenth place getting a €8,180 consolation prize.

In addition, we should see some establish pros such as Ole Schemion and Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, two players who're currently engaged in a heated race for EPT10 Player of the Year. Schemion currently sits atop the leaderboard, but Selbst has been doing her best to close the gap. We'll be sure to bring you an update on that race later today.

Others we expect to see are Team PokerStars Pros Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier and Jonathan Duhamel; Team Online's Marc-Andre Ladouceur and Mickey Petersen; EPT9 Barcelona third-place finisher Joni Jouhkimainen; and former High Roller champs Thomas Muhlocker and Dominik Panka, the latter of which was recently featured in an in-depth piece on PokerNews.

Who will be the next to add their name to this prestigious list of Season 10 High Roller winners? We'll work our way to that answer in a half hour, so be sure to join us then for all the action from the Casino Sanremo.
