Yockey and Zhang Clash in Big Pot

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Chi Zhang tangled with Bryce Yockey and the battle button (Yockey) versus big blind (Zhang) started with a raise to 18,000 and a three-bet to 72,000. Yockey ripped it in and Zhang called with both holding nearly half a million in chips.

Chi Zhang: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Bryce Yockey: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The board came {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Zhang missed out on the two overcards and the flush draw. Both stacks were counted and Yockey had 493,000 at his disposal, Zhang was covered as he only had 478,000.

Morris Eliminated

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Steven Morris was all in for about 50,000 against two players, Simon Burns and Ali Ghezelbash. The board read {5-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and more than 100,000 was also in a side pot. Ghezelbash checked and Burns bet 90,000. Ghezelbash shoved all in for about 370,000. Burns tanked several minutes then folded.

Ghezelbash: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Morris: {a-}{j-}

Morris was dead to a chop and the {q-Hearts} didn't do it for him.

Sitbon Chips Up Against Kang

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Julien Sitbon
Julien Sitbon

On a completed board of {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Julien Sitbon checked from under the gun and faced a bet of 45,000 by Jinsoo Kang on the button.

Sitbon gave it short consideration and eventually made the call. Kang tabled {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Sitbon had that beat with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} for the superior two pair.

Gavin Flynn, The Guy Who Left the Cold

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Gavin Flynn
Gavin Flynn

From 2010 to 2014, Gavin Flynn used to play small tournaments in Ireland. His subsequent results came anywhere but in Ireland. Looking at the portfolio of his Hendon Mob cashes, one doesn't have to be a detective to figure out that Flynn relocated from his home country.

"In Ireland, it's raining and cold a lot. I like nice weather."

For the last two years, Flynn has been living in Thailand, enjoying the warm climate. To his advantage, Flynn didn't need to worry about his occupation, or about looking for a new one. Being online poker pro widens the atlas for anybody who seeks to change the culture—or the weather—they live in.

"It's me and few of my English friends," Flynn said about his new home. They're mostly online grinders whose names haven't been circulating through poker media outlets. Sam Welbourne may be the only exception; the British pro travels around live poker circuit relatively frequently.

"We stay in separate houses, but we have our office. Just to keep the mood better," Flynn said.

With online tournaments being Flynn's bread and butter, the Irish pro had to adjust his daily routine to be able to continue to play the online slate.

"But I don't play on the major sites," Flynn revealed.

The move to Thailand hasn't brought the only change related to his profession. Along with it, Flynn decided that he would travel more and play at more live events.

"I haven't played much live in Europe, really," Flynn said.

It didn't take him too long to adapt to the live scene. Flynn has proved he is no stranger to closing things out. He won two tournaments during his trip to Ho Chi Minh City in July 2018 and, only a few months later, added another victory in a small event in the Philippines. He also took down a daily event in Las Vegas last summer.

But his largest cash came here in the land down under. Last year, Flynn made a solid deep run in the Aussie Millions Main Event, finishing 20th for A$44,200.

Flynn doesn't seem to miss Ireland much. Does he come back often? "Only if I'm going to Vegas and at Christmas, that's it. That's literally it," he laughed. His presence in Europe may increase in the coming months, however, as he plans to push more volume when it comes to live tournaments. He hinted that he might show up in Barcelona in August.

The Aussie Millions provide a good test for the Irishman, and he's been succeeding in it so far. "Barcelona will be even bigger, but it will be a massive crowd. I'm not going to get one beast at each table like here," Flynn forecasted.

Here in the Main Event, Flynn survived the bubble again, locking up a back-to-back in-the-money finish in the largest tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. He has the work cut out for him, though, should he aim to top his last year's result. Flynn was left with 13 big blinds on dinner break.

"I'm short. I'll just try to build my stack now, but it's hard because there are three massive stacks to my left and all the shorts are to my right," Flynn observed, noting that Tomas Ribeiro, Jordan Tentori, and Nino Ullmann were in the next three seats behind him.

Flynn said he feels the field getting tougher every year with more international players joining the action at Crown Melbourne. "You're looking at every table, and there is a big name," Flynn gave credit to the competition.

Having called the Asia-Pacific region his home for the last two years, Flynn and his companions have a reasonable action radius. He plans to get back to the online realm following his appearance here in Melbourne, but there are more trips already lined up in his itinerary.

"We're going for poker events to Taiwan and Manila. But Manila had a volcano erupt so it might not be the best option," Flynn concluded.

Double Ups for Miscikowski and Tentori

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

David Miscikowski was all-in for 155,000 with {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} against the {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} of Simon Burns and the board came {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{q-Spades}{7-Clubs} to improve Miscikowski to a full house.

Quan Zhou on the button folded to the shove of Jordan Tentori and the call of Dingxiang Ong, and mentioned in table chat he had king-jack suited.

Jordan Tentori: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Dingxiang Ong: {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

The {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board kept Tentori in contention as well.

Huang and Baril Next to Go

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Shan Huang
Shan Huang

Shan Huang was all in for somewhere in the region of 175,000 holding {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and would need to hold against the big stack of Steve O'Dwyer with {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The flop {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} gave Huang very little to work with and the miracle of running quads was not to be with the {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} runout sending him to the rail.

Meanwhile, Jean-Serge Baril has also been eliminated.

Del Vecchio Shoves River

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Mike Del Vecchio checked from the big blind on {3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Yin Liu bet 13,000 from the hijack. Del Vecchio raised to 36,000 and Liu called. Both players checked the {7-Diamonds}, bringing a {6-Clubs}. Del Vecchio shoved for about 120,000 and Liu took several minutes then patted the table and folded.

Another Elimination for O'Dwyer

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Steve O'Dwyer has been on a bit of a tear recently, this time having Thomas WIng all in for less than 200,000.

Steve O'Dwyer: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Thomas Wing: {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

There was an eight on the {7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop and another on the {8-Clubs} turn as the river {3-Diamonds} completed the board and send Wing to the rail just before the break.
