The King Is Dead, Long Live the King

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Manny Stavroloulos
Manny Stavroloulos

Last years champion Manny Stavropoulos has been eliminated from the tournament. Victor Li told us all about it.

Stavropoulos raised from early position and Benjamin Pollak in the big blind made the call. Pollak checked on {8-}{5-}{2-} with two clubs and Stavropoulos made a continuation bet of 2,400. Pollak asnwered with a check raise to 5,100 and action was back on Stavropoulos. Stavropoulos shoved all in for about 12,000 and Pollak made the call.

Manny Stavropoulos: {9-}{9-}
Benjamin Pollak: {10-}{10-}

The {A-} on the turn was of no influence on the outcome and neither was the {10-} on the river. Manny Stavroloulos has left the tournament, a new champion will be crowned this year!

Gruissem Parts With Lots of Chips

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Philipp Gruissem raised to 2,000 from the hijack and his neighbor Sam Steindl from Australia three-bet to 5,100. This forced out the button and both blinds, but not Gruissem as he made the call.

The flop came {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and Gruissem and Steindl both checked. Gruissem then bet out 8,000 on the {7-Clubs} turn and Steindl made the call.

The river came the {8-Spades} and Gruissem randomly picked 30,000 and tossed them in, believing he had just put Steindl all in. Steindl in fact had 34,500 and made the call after quite some tanking.

Gruissem showed {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and was beaten by Steindl's {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for the rivered straight.

Broom Soars After Busting Haidary

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

After a raising war we just caught Mostafa Haidary all in and at risk versus the already big stack of James Broom.

"I gotta win a flip!" Haidary said to his friend at another table, as the showdown looked like this.

Haidary: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Broom: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The flop brought {2-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, and Haidary's smile grew when the {6-Spades} hit. Things turned around on the final card, when the {K-Spades} sent Haidary to the rail, and Broom to 190,000.

Ivey's Vanquisher Falls In Entertaining Three-Way Hand

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We heard a commotion up at Table 42, and when we made our way over we discovered why.

Three players created a big preflop all-in pot when each woke up with a big pocket pair. Michael Levy had the best of it, and he had to opponents at risk, which included Tamara Volkoff, who you may recall eliminated Phil Ivey late on Day 1c.

Levy: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Volkoff: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Third Player: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The commotion stemmed from the fact that the {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} flop gave two players a set, and that was amplified when Volkoff made a set of her own on the {Q-Diamonds} turn. The {5-Hearts} river was a blank, meaning Levy's hand held to score the double knock out.

Several players, inclduign Volkoff, took out their phones to snap a photo of the wild hand.

End of the Line For Huang

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We just caught Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang headed for the exit, and he explained to us what happened to his chips.

Huang raised under the gun plus one holding {A-}{Q-} and the player on his direct left made it 4,000. The action folded back to Huang, and he moved all in for 15,000.

Huang's opponent called with {8-}{8-}, and the board brought out {K-}{J-}{4-}{4-}{9-}.

The $25,000 Challenge Champ Takes a Big Hit

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Chance Kornuth, who won the $25,000 Challenge a few days back, has had a rough go of it here on Day 2.

In a recent hand, Kevin O'Donnell opened for 1,800 from early position only to have Melania Ramos three-bet to 3,800. The player on the button flatted, and then Kornuth four-bet to 11,800 from the big blind. O'Donnell and Ramos both folded, and then the button thought long and hard before making the call.

Both players then checked the {5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop as well as the {K-Spades} turn, and then Kornuth led out for 10,000 on the {7-Hearts} river. His opponent thought long and hard before raising to 22,000, and Kornuth hit the tank.

"Feels like you got me," said Kornuth before adding, "maybe not."

Kornuth then tossed in the chips, which was about half his remaining stack, and was shocked to see his opponent roll over the {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for the rivered nuts.

Hachem Doubles in Clash of WSOP Champions

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Joe Hachem, Australia's most famous poker player and World Series of Poker Main Event champion, just doubled through Sweden's Martin Jacobson, the 2014 Main Event winner.

Hachem ended up all in with pocket aces, and he got called by Jacobson's jacks. The board brought blanks, and Hachem kept his tournament alive.

Hachem last cashed the Aussie Millions Main Event back in 2007, but right now he's still in the hunt for another deep run.

The Champ Doubles Up

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Last years champion Manny Stavropoulos just opened the cutoff and his country man John Dalessandri three-bet to 5,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded and action was back on Stavropoulos. He pushed all in for 15,400 and after contemplating what to do for a bit, Dalessandri called.

Manny Stavropoulos: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
John Dalessandri: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}

It was a classic flip and Stavropoulos would be the one to come out ahead. The board came {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts} and last years winner doubled up with top two.
