Flavien Guennan Leads Day One - WSOPE Event #1

Nível 8 : 250/500, 50 ante
The Chip Leader - Flavien Guennan
The Chip Leader - Flavien Guennan

Three hundred sixty players started Event #1 of the WSOPE and by the time we had finished we had lost over two-thirds of the field. 80 players will return at 15.00 (CET) to start Day Two and heading the chip counts is Flavian Guennan. His mighty tussle with Alessandro Speranza, in the penultimate hand of the night, dramatically grasped the chip lead out of the hands of Benjamin Pollak, who was bagging up his chips while the action was still going on.

Other notable players through who made it through to Day Two include Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst, Peter Jetten and Anton Wigg.

Day Two will be at our second venue, the Le Criosette Casino Barriere, so make sure you turn up to the right place! For all of you people following the action in cyberspace nothing changes. Just make sure you are hear at 15.00 (CET) for all the very best action.

No Chiplead for Pollak, Guenan Rises to the Top

There's a thin line between begin chipleader or just one of the players. Guenan Flavien wasn't on our watch the entire day but due to the second to last hand of the day he emerged as our day one chipleader. In a huge pot between Flavien and Speranza he managed to double up to a massive 108,800 and we've got the details.

The board read {J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} when Flavien checked to Speranza who bet 3,800. Flavien made the quick call and the {9-Spades} appeared on the turn. Flavien checked again and just like on the flop Speranza decided to bet. This time the bet was 9,500 but that didn't scare Flavien who called once again.

The river was the {K-Spades} and for the third time Flavien checked to Speranza who looked over at his opponents stack and decided to put him all-in. Flavien had 37,500 chips left behind which was still more than the average stack but within second he made the call. Speranza flashed {Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and mucked when Flavien Guenan turned over his {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and raked in this massive pot.

Benjamin Pollak Grabs The Chip Lead At The Death

Benjamin Pollak
Benjamin Pollak

Benjamin Pollak is no stranger to being an end of day chip leader and he seems to have done it again after eliminating fellow countryman Nicolas Levi.

Levi started the action with a raise and Pollak called on the button with {Q-Spades} {J-Spades}. The flop was {Q-} {J-Spades} {4-Spades} and both players checked. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and once again both players checked. The final card was the {A-Spades} and Levi checked, Pollak bet 3,000, Levi check-raised to 10,000, Pollak moved all-in and Levi called.

Pollak turned over {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} and we do not know the Levi hand.

Casey Kastle Closing in on the Chipleader

We picked up the action from the turn and saw {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} on the board. Kastle bet 4,650 and his opponent, in the seat to his left, called. The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Kastle grabbed chips quickly and threw out a bet of 9,775. Tapio Vihakas folded quickly and got to see the {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts} Kastle was bluffing with. Both players are in good shape but Kastle is the front runner with a stack close to that of chipleader Alessandro Speranza.

Three More Hands

Nível 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

The tournament director just announced we'll be playing three more hands before play stops for tonight. Tomorrow we will resume the tournament at 3pm local time. Final updates about the day wil follow shortly.

Kings Sting Wade

Tristan Wade raised to 2,600 after which Stefano Ferrara three-bet all-in for 7,925. Wade snap-called and we got to see the following showdown.

Tristan Wade{A-Spades}{J-Spades}
Stefano Ferrara{K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and Wade lost quite a few of his precious chips, he's down to 26,800 with half an hour left before the day ends.

Carlos Mortensen Leaves The Building

We joined the action on a flop of {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {2-Spades} and with 2,000 in the pot. David Peters checked from under the gun and Carlos Mortensen bet 1,700 from his short stack and Peters called. The turn was {5-Spades} and once again Peters checked and this time Mortensen moved all-in and Peters called quicker than Carl Lewis used to run the 100 metres.
