Salas Adds Another Mill

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Damian Salas
Damian Salas

A player in the hijack bet 60,000 on a {5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop, and another player called from the button. Damian Salas made it 208,000 to go in the big blind, and only the player on the button called. Salas bet 201,000 more on the {5-Spades} turn and received another call. On the {q-Hearts} river, Salas thought a few minutes until his opponent called the clock on him.

Informed he had 30 seconds, Salas bet 464,000 in short order. His opponent flicked in an immediate call, and Salas showed {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} for a board.

"Wow," the other player said, mucking {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts} face up. "I'd have called if you went all in."

Gyeongbyeong Lee Wins Massive Pot on the River

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

There was a large pot brewing between Gyeongbyeong Lee and Le Tieu inside the Brasilia Room. With over 600,000 in the middle already, the board read {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}.

Lee bet 200,000 from under-the-gun and Tieu raised to 600,000. Lee tanked for a couple minutes before moving all-in for 1,141,000 and the action was back on Tieu. He also tanked for a couple minutes before pushing forward a stack of chips to call.

Lee tabled {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Tieu turned over {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} as he gave a fist pump, excited about making the right call. There was still one more card to come, however, and the dealer burned and turned the {q-Clubs} as the river. Lee rivered a straight and scored a massive double up, courtesy of Tieu.

Chris George
Chris George

A player in middle position opened and Chris George three-bet all in for 250,000. Dusty Hensel called in late position and the initial player thought about it before folding.

George showed {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Hensel {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The third player in the hand banged the table: "Two overs," he said.

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades} and George was eliminated.

Alex Massman Busts One

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

The player in the cutoff moved all in for his last 183,000 and Alex Massman called from the small blind.

The cutoff tabled his hand, revealing {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, and ran away from the table because he didn't want to see the hand play out. Massman showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} for a flip. Massman asked if the hand was considered dead, and the dealer called the floorman over. The supervisor confirmed that it was not possible for the hand to be dead, so the dealer carried on.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Massman picked up a straight draw to go with his over cards as outs. The turn was the {a-Diamonds} to give him a straight, and the river was the {4-Diamonds}. Massman scooped the pot and sent his opponent to the rail.

Player Interview: Randy Pisane

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Randy Pisane
Randy Pisane

Randy Pisane, a self-described hardcore student of the game, started Day 4 with 600,000 and a guaranteed cash in the Main Event.

Pisane started playing poker in the early nineties and paid the hefty price to learn the game from some of the best in the most famous underground poker clubs in New York, the Diamond Club and The Mayfair.

As players were leaving for dinner and their last break of the day, Pisane graciously agreed to talk to PokerNews about his incredible run up to 2.5 million in chips in just four levels of play.

Pisane: I had some of those standard double up spots of kings versus queens and catching cards at the right time. I may have had some good cards, but I also made some good moves at the right time. I even put my tournament life on the line a couple of times on bluffs that thankfully worked out.

PokerNews: You've been at this table all day. What's it like to go from the hunted to the hunter?

Pisane: I'm getting respect, but I'm not overly aggressive. I've been making good plays and value bets when appropriate. I have some good reads on players that I know will pay off and I know the people to stay away from. There are definitely some bad players at my table right now, and they're definitely some good players, and I'm able to recognize who's who.

PokerNews: Watching you interact with the players, it seems that you are as much of a poker fan as a player. Is that fair?

Pisane: Oh yeah. I'm a big fan and want to keep learning. I read a lot and watch a lot of people on YouTube, so I can learn. I'm a big fan of Doug Polk - he's one of my inspirations. I'm definitely a big fan of his.

PokerNews: The last time you played a WSOP event was in 2011. For a student and the fan of the game, why the long hiatus?

Pisane: It's a big commitment. I've had a full-time job; I was doing institutional fixed income sales for 26 years. Last July, right before the World Series I decided to take a break. And my friend begged me to play. But I just walked away from my job, and I needed a break. If Rob didn't put the money up, I'm not sure I would be here this year. He really pushed me, and my girlfriend also bought 5%. It's because of them that I'm here. I couldn't say no.

PokerNews: How does it feel to be near the top of the chip counts towards the end of Day 4 of The Main Event?

Pisane: It feels great. It's been a great day. I feel pretty good about how I'm playing. I've made some good reads on people. I've definitely caught some good cards, but I'll tell you up until today, I was only dealt aces once, and I lost with them. Today, the run of cards has been a little bit better.

Kenny Hallaert Eliminates a Player

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Kenny Hallaert's table had lost a player, and we saw Hallaert raking in the rest of his opponent's stack. He told us that the player in the cutoff raised to 40,000 and Kenny Hallaert called in the small blind. The big blind folded.

The flop came {j-}{10-}{7-}. Hallaert checked and the cutoff bet 55,000. Hallaert re-raised all in, covering his opponent, and his opponent called.

Hallaert: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
All in player: {q-}{j-}

The turn was an {8-} and the river a {2-} and Hallaert added his opponent's chips to his stack
