Event #72: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship

John Monnette Leads Final 29 Players into Day 2 of Stud Championship

John Monnette

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and the 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for Day 2 of Event #72: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship!

One of the final events of this year's WSOP saw 88 players take to the felt for the Stud Championship which would be one more than last year's instalment of the event. These 88 players would create a prize pool of $827,200 that would ensure the final 14 players a guaranteed $14,667 payday, while $245,451 and the WSOP gold bracelet will await up top for whoever is the last standing.

Day 1 was played at an incredibly fast pace in comparison to most of the $10,000 buy-ins that have run this year, and consequently just 29 players remained at day's end. Leading those players was John Monnette who finished with 371,000 in chips, and, after already pocketing a bracelet this year in the $10,000 2-7 Single Draw Championship, he'll be looking to add another along with 2017 WSOP Player of the Year honors where he currently sits in third place behind Ryan Hughes and John Racener.

Perry Friedman (363,500) and Shaun Deeb (343,000) are the only other players above the 300,000-chip mark while Chris Tryba (285,500), Chris Vitch (257,000), Andre Akkari (245,500), and Eric Wasserson (201,000) round out the chip counts with players over 200,000 in chips. Also still in contention include multiple WSOP bracelet winners Chris Ferguson (189,000), David Bach (169,500), Jason Mercer (156,000), Brandon Shack-Harris (52,000), and Ben Yu (35,000).

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be providing continuous live updates of all the action from Day 2 of the Event #72: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship when play resumes at 2:00 p.m. (PDT). So stay tuned right here as we look to catch every set of rolled-up trips, split pair, and seventh street outdraw live from the 2017 WSOP and Event #72.
