Jens Lakemeier Leads $2,500 Big Bet Mix Final Table

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 2,500 ante
Jens Lakemeier
Jens Lakemeier

Thirty-seven players started Day 2 of Event #59: $2,500 Big Bet Mix and just six reached the official final table by the end of play. Leading the pack is Jens Lakemeier who used a dynamic mix of aggression and level-headedness to bag 702,000 in chips, which will stand him in good stead for the final day tomorrow.

Close behind him is Jerry Wong (680,000) and Jason Stockfish (514,000). The final table is completed by Ashton Griffin (232,500), Andrew Kelsall (185,500), and Kenneth Fitzgerald (143,000).

The day started just seven eliminations away from the money, with John Moore and three-time bracelet winner Brian Rast two of the players unlucky to miss out on a $3,750 min-cash.

John Bunch was the unfortunate bubble boy. Coming into hand-for-hand play, he had a little under 300 in chips and, by the second hand of hand-for-hand, he was all in on a five-card draw hand. He drew four to a queen and, although he made two pairs, he was eliminated by Tuan Le who had trip sixes.

There was still a wealth of talent with 30 players remaining, including multiple bracelet winners in the shape of Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, and Mike Matusow.

Mercier was the first of these to go, clashing with Jerry Wong in a PLO pot. Mercier’s aces were good on the flop, but Wong had an open-ended straight draw and a flush draw. The turn completed his flush draw and Mercier was eliminated.

By the time play got down to three tables, the chip lead was taken in dramatic fashion by Jason Stockfish in a pot-limit 2-7 triple draw pot worth over 250,000 in which Stockfish made a number three and was paid off by Ryan Hughes.

Stockfish held onto this lead and had close to 500,000 in chips with two tables remaining. Negreanu was eliminated in 12th place in a pot-limit 2-7 triple draw hand against Ryan Hughes. With Negreanu holding {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}, he watched Hughes draw to {5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Hughes drew a {7-}, completing his wheel, eliminating Negreanu.

Another big name went in 11th. Mike Matusow moved all in on a flop with a flush draw and bottom pair and was called by the top two pairs of Andrew Kelsall. Matusow bricked the turn and the river and was eliminated.

Ten players went on dinner break and, upon their return, it took them just over a level to get down to an unofficial final table.

David “ODB” Baker fell in five-card draw, failing to outdraw the jacks of Wong when Baker held nines. Then, Ismael Bojang clashed with Jens Lakemeier and Kelsall in a three-way Big O pot which resulted in Lakemeier eliminating Bojang.

Finally, Marco Johnson, having worked his short stack masterfully since before the dinner break, was eliminated and the unofficial final table was set.

And there was still time for one more elimination. Ryan Hughes was eliminated in seventh place meaning that the following six players will return on Sunday at 2 p.m. to play it out for the $112,232 and a WSOP gold bracelet.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Ashton Griffin raised to 16,000. Kenneth Fitzgerald called from the button and Ryan Hughes called from the big blind.

On the flop of {k-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} Hughes moved all in for 60,400. Griffin moved all in over the top and Fitzgerald folded.

Hughes: {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Griffin: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Griffin held a flush draw, and the {j-Clubs} on the turn completed his flush. Hughes needed a king or a seven on the river, but it was the {3-Spades} and he was eliminated in 7th place for $12,390.

First Big Scoop of the Unofficial Final Table Goes to Lakemeier

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 2,000 ante

Big O

Jens Lakemeier opened to 15,500 from the cutoff. Ryan Hughes called from the button, and the two went heads-up to the flop.

On the {2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} board, both players checked to see the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn. Lakemeier fired 32,000, and Hughes called. The river was the {7-Clubs}, and Lakemeier fired again, this time putting out a bet of 87,000. Hughes thought for a couple of minutes, then annoucned a call.

Lakemeier showed {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for a Broadway straight and seven-six for a low. That earned him both sides of the pot as Hughes mucked his hand, and Lakemeier solidified his position as the chip leader.

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

On the first hand back from break, Ryan Hughes opened with a raise to 17,000. Action folded to Maco Johnson, who moved all in with a shorter stack. Before the dealer could finish counting, Hughes called.

Johnson stood pat.

"I have a straight, Hughes said, then took one.

Johnson showed {10-}{8-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a ten-eight smooth, while Hughes had {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}. He needed a nine, three, or two to eliminate Johnson. His last card was a {3-} and that did it.

Johnson was eliminated in eighth place, collecting $12,390 for his efforts.

The final seven players are now redrawing for seats at the unofficial final table.

Big O

Ismael Bojang limped from the cutoff. Jerry Wong folded his button, and Andrew Kelsall completed his small blind. Jens Lakemeier then raised to 44,000 from the big blind. Both other players called.

The flop came {3-Spades}{q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. Bojang was holding his hands in front of his face to obscure his view of the flop.

"I hope they check to me, then I'm good," said Bojang. Kelsall checked, but Lakemeier bet the pot for 134,400. Bojang tanked for a while before calling.

Kelsall seemed to think about his decision for a good while. "If I fold, I'm gonna have to go over there for a couple of minutes and stare into the corner," he said. Eventually, he folded.

"That's good for me," said Lakemeier showing {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

"High cards, please, dealer," said Bojang, showing {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and the river the {9-Clubs}, meaning Lakemeier's kings and ace-deuce low held. Bojang was eliminated.

No-Limit 5 Card Draw

It folded to David "ODB" Baker, on the button, who moved all in for 48,400. Ismael Bojang folded in the small blind, and Jerry Wong called in the big blind.

Wong drew three and Baker two.

Wong showed {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, and Baker showed {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. Wong drew {10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}.

"Naked jacks, Dave," said Wong.

"First one's a four-across diamond, but I already have one of those," said Baker, referring to his {9-Diamonds}. "The second's a no-spotter spade."

He slammed the {3-Spades} face up on the table, confirming what he already knew. For good measure, he turned over the {10-Diamonds} and was eliminated in 10th place for $9,336.

No-Limit Hold'em

"I should've three-bet him preflop." That's what Mike Matusow said as he headed for the rail.

On a {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop, Matusow checked from the small blind over to Andrew Kelsall in the cutoff. Kelsall bet, and Matusow quickly moved all in. Kelsall called.

Matusow: {4-Spades}{6-Spades}
Kelsall: {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

The board completed with the {3-Hearts} on the turn and the {8-Diamonds} on the river, and that was it for Matusow, who needed to hit his flush or a four to survive.

"The sick part is I was check-raising on any flop," Matusow said as he continued out of the tournament area.

"Good run, Mike," David "OBD" Baker said. "Not much you can do there."

Pot-Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw

Daniel Negreanu picked the game and seemed to be pretty excited about choosing Pot-Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw.

On the first hand, he opened from under the gun with a raise to 10,500. Ryan Hughes was the only caller from the small blind. Hughes took two while Negreanu took one. Hughes then bet 20,000, and Negreanu moved all in for not much more. Hughes called.

Both players took one apiece on the second draw, then one more on the third draw.

Hughes showed {5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

"Give him a six," Negreanu requested. "Oh wait, I threw away three sixes."

Negreanu was holding {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}. Hughes peeled first and revealed a {7-} making him the nuts and giving him an unbeatable hand. Negreanu showed his {4-}, and he was eliminated in 12th place, collecting $7,188 for his finish.
