Juha Helppi (146,000) finished Day 1 on top of a stacked field in Event $53: $3,000 Limit Hold'em 6-Max. The field started small, but exceeded last year's field with 256 entrants compared to the 245 from last year.

Several of the World Series of Poker Player of the Year leaders came through the field, with Daniel Negreanu and Mike Leah entering but missing the Day 2 cut.

James Obst (78,100) and John Racener (30,700) are in the thick of things starting Day 2 on Wednesday with only 73 players returning. Another duo that might be destined to meet on Day 2 is newly-crowned $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo Champion Christopher Vitch (47,000) and runner-up Benny Glaser (28,600). Vitch captured his second bracelet early on the morning of Day 1 and was in the field for the 3 p.m. start.

A flood of players joined later in the day, including Jason Mercier (36,000), Jack Duong (10,400), and Jeff Lisandro. Duong and Mercier bagged, but Lisandro was eliminated by Roland Israelashvili.

The players return Wednesday at 2 p.m. and take one step closer to the WSOP gold bracelet. Follow all the Day 2 action on PokerNews.com.

The player in the hijack raised and Benny Glaser three-bet from the cutoff. Action folded back to his opponent who called.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, his opponent check-called the bet of Glaser.

The turn brought them the {10-Clubs}, she check-called Glaser's bet again.

The river completed the board with the {3-Clubs}, again she check-called Glaser's bet. Glaser showed {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} for queens and jacks, she mucked. She said she had {A-}{10-}.

Finishing the Job, Israelashvili Eliminates Lisandro

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Earlier this level, Roland Israelashvili won a pot of Jeff Lisandro that left him with 5,000. On this hand he eliminated Lisandro with ace-high.

The board read {7-}{5-}{4-}{j-} and the two got all in. Neither had a pair. Lisandro had {10-}{9-} and a gutshot straight draw and Israelashvili had {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for an open-ended straight draw. Both missed and Lisandro headed to the rail.

Anthony Zinno Busts Mike Leah

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Anthony Zinno
Anthony Zinno

Hand #1:

Mike Leah was all-in from the hijack and was called by the player in the cutoff.

Mike Leah: {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Cutoff: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {9-Spades}{Q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts} to give Leah a straight to survive the tournament.

Hand #2:

Leah raised from the under-the-gun position, the player in the cutoff three-bet. Anthony Zinno called, Leah four-bet, the other player and Zinno both called.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, Zinno checked, Leah bet, the other player called, Zinno raised, Leah called (effectively putting him all-in) and so did the other player.

The turn was the {5-Clubs}, Zinno bet and the other player folded. Zinno showed {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for a set, Leah showed {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and he was drawing dead. The {J-Clubs} on the river completed the board and Leah was eliminated.

Bonomo's Jacks Hold

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Justin Bonomo raised preflop until he and a short-stacked opponent were all in preflop. Bonomo had jacks and his opponent had {a-}{10-}.

A king and a queen came onto the board, but that was as close as Bonomo came to losing the pot and he stacked his opponent and took down the pot.

Roland Israelashvili Takes a Chunk From Jeff Lisandro

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Jeff Lisandro was one of the last-minute entrants and shortly after the break he played a hand that went three ways to the flop.

Lisandro opened under the gun with a raise and two players called, including Roland Israelashvili from the big blind.

The flop came {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Israelashvili check-called a bet from Lisandro. The turn was the {q-Clubs} and the action repeated itself. The river was the {2-Spades} and Israelashvili led. Lisandro called only to see Israelashvili turn over the nuts, {a-Spades}{5-Spades}.
