At 11 a.m. local time, cards will be in the air for Day 1, Flight A of Event #18: $565 Pot Limit Omaha at the 2017 World Series of Poker.

All players will receive 5,000 starting chips and will have 18 30-minute levels to try to accumulate as many more as they can before bagging their stacks at the end of the day. Late registration will be open through the end of Level 6 at approximately 2:20 p.m. and there will be a 20-minute break every four levels. All of the above will also be true for Flight B, which kicks off at 4 p.m. this afternoon, then surviving players from both flights will return tomorrow to play Day 2 at 2 p.m.

Last year in this event, Ryan Laplante triumphed over 2,483 entrants, the largest field in the history of live PLO tournaments, to win his first gold bracelet and $190,328. The defending champion’s summer is already off to a strong start with a seventh-place finish in Event #10: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold’em that he shared with teammate Samantha Cohen.

The player under the gun limped in, Ylon Schwartz was next to act and did the same, and Christopher Haydt raised to 275 from the cutoff. Both blinds called, as did both limpers, and five players saw a flop of {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Action checked around to Haydt, and he bet 1,100. The blinds folded, the under-the-gun player called, and Schwartz folded.

The turn brought the {4-Clubs} and the under-the-gun player checked. Haydt moved all in for 3,625 and his opponent called to put himself at risk.

Both players tabled pocket aces, but Haydt held {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for trip sevens, and his opponent had {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for an open-ended straight draw. The river changed nothing and Haydt took the pot to eliminate his opponent.

Annette Obrestad Chipping Up Early

Nível 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

With about 1,300 already in the middle and the board reading {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}, Annette Obrestad was on the button and heads up against one player in early position. He checked, and Obrestad checked behind.

The turn brought the {7-Diamonds} and the early-position player bet 850. Obrestad called.

The {2-Diamonds} fell on the river and the early-position player bet again, 2,000 this time. Obrestad called and tabled {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, and her nine-high straight was good enough to win the pot.
