Connecticut's Gregory Jensen won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in one of the final events of the series when he took down Event #86: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship for a new career-best $824,649.

Jensen defeated Moldova's Pavel Plesuv, who was also after his first bracelet and took home $509,674 for his runner-up finish.

The championship event attracted 394 entrants to generate a prize pool of $3.7 million. Some of those who ran deep to make the six-handed final table include one-time bracelet winner Ali Eslami (3rd - $234,396) and high-stakes pro Brock Wilson (6th - $117,819).

Jensen, who earlier in the series finished fourth in Event #42: $100,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for a short-lived career-best score of $571,896, told PokerNews winning his first bracelet "feels like a dream.”

“It was just an incredible run, and I feel better about the bracelet than the money," he said in an interview after the victory. "The bracelet was the big thing, and I just couldn’t believe that it could happen this quickly. I’m super lucky. I played against many players who were way better than me, but sometimes you get lucky.”

From Low Stakes to Nosebleeds

Jensen had just $18,094 in tournament earnings heading into this year's WSOP. With his two final tables and a 13th-place finish in Event #83: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em worth $87,500, he now has $1.5 million in Hendon Mob-reported earnings.

Jensen told PokerNews he recently made the big jump up in stakes “just for the challenge of it."

"I don’t get to play as much poker as I’d like to," he said. "I used to play when I was younger, but I haven’t played in a long time. And I just want to play against the best and see what it’s like, and so it’s just a tremendous experience.”

Among those cheering on Jensen's rail was his wife, Zainab, as well as a group of “some of the most incredible poker players in the world" including Galen Hall, Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov.

Final Table Action

Wilson was the first to go at the six-handed final table when he got it in with ace-jack and couldn't stay ahead of the king-ten of the eventual champion.

Barak Wisbrod fell in fifth place pocket nines couldn't win a race against the king-jack of Eslami, who was next out when his pocket threes were dominated against the pocket aces of Jensen.

Jensen went on to eliminate Lucas Foster in third place when he made a Wheel with ace-three against the ace-jack of Foster after getting it in dominated preflop.

Jensen began the heads-up battle with a sizable chip lead but Plesuv managed to chip up, including when he flopped a flush to double up against the bottom pair of Jensen.

In the final hand, Jensen moved all in from the button and Plesuv called in the big blind with a slightly larger stack. Jensen held ace-nine to the pocket sevens of Plesuv and a nine on the flop all but sealed it for Jensen. The board ran out clean and Jensen secured his first WSOP bracelet.

"I was able to get lucky," said Jensen. "It was only the third time in my life being at a final table, and all through it (I was) just getting good cards and playing them reasonably. It’s humbling playing against such good players.”

That wraps up PokerNews' coverage of Event #86: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship as the 2022 WSOP winds down.

Gregory Jensen raised to 250,000 from under the gun and Lucas Foster made the call on the button. Ali Eslami defended his big blind,

The flop came {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, Eslami quickly checked. Jensen continued with a bet of 350,000 for Foster to call. Eslami raised it up to 1,000,000 for Jensen to react with a shove having both opponents covered. Foster folded but Eslami needed some more time. In the end he made the call for the 5,500,000 or so he had behind.

Ali Eslami: {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Gregory Jensen: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Eslami had flopped a set of treys but Jensen had hit the higher set of aces.

The rest of the board was completed with the {8-Spades} on the turn and the {4-Spades} on the river to not bring Eslami his one out for him to bust in fourth place.

Ali Eslami limped in on the button and Barak Wisbrod shoved from the big blind for what looked around 2,660,000. Eslami considered all his options carefully as it would take a big chunk out of his stack if he was wrong. He made the call.

Barak Wisbrod: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Ali Eslami: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}

The flop came {j-Hearts}{a-Spades}{7-Spades} for Eslami to hit the higher pair and pick up the nut flush draw.

The turn was the {q-Diamonds} which didn't change things and neither did the {5-Diamonds} on the river for Wisbrod to bust in fifth place.

Brock Wilson: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Gregory Jensen: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Wilson was ahead but the rest of the board was completed with the {7-Diamonds} on the turn and the {10-Hearts} on the river for Jensen to hit it for the pair of tens to get the field down to five players.

"That's seven in a row," Galen Hall commented. "That's seven all-ins in a row where the hand from behind wins."

"Don't worry," Jensen commented. "I wasn't planning on getting it in good," he added with a smile.

Noon Restart for Final Six Players in Event #86: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em

Gregory Jensen
Gregory Jensen

Welcome to an extra day in Event #86: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em as six players return at noon local time here at the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas. There were 394 entries into the tournament to create a total prize pool of $3,674,050 and sixty of them got paid over the previous two days. But the lion's share of the kitty will be handed out today as the winner will walk away with one of the last WSOP bracelets on top of the first-place prize of $824,649.

Pavel Plesuv is leading the pack today with 6,890,000 which is worth a nice number of 69 big blinds at the start of the day. With over $5 million in live tournament cashes, he could come very close to the $6 million mark today. In second place you can find Gregory Jensen who finished in fourth place in Event #42: $100,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em for $571,896 which was his biggest career cash ever. Some loyal friends railed him throughout Day 2 which also included Galen Hall.

Following him in third place is Ali Eslami who won Event #36: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better for $135,260 earlier this summer to get him to over $1.25 million in just WSOP cashes alone. Eslami is coming back to the felt with 3,785,000 in his stack. Barak Wisbrod won the $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold'em event back in 2019 and one of his team mates, Ohad Geiger was on his rail.

Joining those four players on the final table today are Lucas Foster with 24 big blinds and Brock Wilson with 21 big blinds. For Foster, this is the biggest live tournament cash for him but for Wilson a win today would also get him close to $6,000,000 in live tournament winnings.
