At day's end, WSOP bracelet winner David Williams (769,000) bagged one of the biggest stacks in the room. Williams surged up the leaderboard on the bubble and never looked back. The same could be said for Dylan Weisman (803,000) and Brandon Cantu (700,000) who will enter Day 2 with big stacks.

Chino Rheem (335,000) was on top of the leaderboard for most of the day, but he gave most of his chips up on one of the last hands of the night when Joshua Stefansky (1,660,000) made a huge call for a massive double. Stefansky will take a big advantage into Day 2.

A few other notables to find a bag included Erick Lindgren (127,000), Michael Holtz (420,000), and Johann Ibanez (244,000).

Some of the notables to play but bust on Day 1 included defending champion and reigning WSOP Player of the Year Josh Arieh. Arieh made the money but did not find a bag. Also in the field was last year’s runner-up and two-time bracelet winner Tommy Le who also bowed out by the end of the night.

A few others to fire a bullet included Daniel Negreanu, Pete Chen, Erik Seidel, Phil Hellmuth, and Ken Aldridge to name a few.

Stefansky Makes A Massive Call to Take Chip Lead

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Joshua Stefansky
Joshua Stefansky

As most players were bagging up for the night, the biggest pot of the tournament was being played at table 410.

There was already 250,000 in the middle on the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} river and Joshua Stefansky bet 195,000. Table chip leader Chino Rheem then moved all in to send Stefanky deep into the tank.

Stefansky thought it over for several minutes before finally tossing in a call.

Rheem was hesitant to show and Stefansky rolled over {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{x-}{x-} a set of sixes as Rheem mucked. Stefansky raked in a massive double as play came to an end.

Chad Holloway raised to 21,000, Igor Zektser called and the Jan-Peter Jachtmann shoved for 117,000 from the big blind.

Holloway put in his remaining 74,000 and Zektser thought it over before calling.

Chad Holloway: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Jan-Peter Jachtmann: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Igor Zektser: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}{a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

"I've got you pipped by one," said Holloway to Zektser.

Zektser smashed the {a-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Spades} flop to make a flush, and nor the {k-Clubs} turn or {2-Spades} river changed anything as both Holloway and Jachtmann were sent to the rail.

Holloway, wearing a 20th-anniversary 1989 WSOP jacket from the Binion's Horseshoe, showed {9-Spades}{q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{x-} and took down the pot.

Williams Crosses the Milly Mark

Nível 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
David Williams

On the bubble, there was a few hundred thousand already in the middle on the {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} turn. WSOP bracelet winner David Williams shoved for 375,000 and his opponent called after a long tank.

David Williams: {9-Clubs}{q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Opponent: {9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Both players had trip nines, but Williams held the better kicker. The river was a blank and Williams got a full double, while his opponent was left with just 3,000 in chips.

"Let's go," shouted Williams as he stood on his chair.

Ibanez Applies the Bubble Pressure

Johann Ibanez

There was already 85,000 in the middle on the {6-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} turn when an early position player bet 59,000 and the cutoff called.

The action was on Johann Ibanez who potted it up to 330,000, which appeared to cover both opponents. The early position player was sent deep into the tank.

"Clock," said Ibanez after a few minutes.

The floor counted down and the player mucked, the cutoff folded fairly quickly and Ibanez confidently showed {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for two flush draws and a double gutter as he dragged a big pot on the bubble.

Rheem Continues to be a Wrecking Ball

Nível 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

On the {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{k-Diamonds} flop, Chino Rheem faced a bet of 11,000 and raised it up to 100,000. His opponent snap-called all-in for less and the hands were tabled.

All-in Player: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Chino Rheem: {q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Rheem was on the wrong end of a set-over-set situation, but everything changed on the {j-Spades} turn as Rheem made a straight. The river {2-Hearts} bricked off the end and Rheem sent another one to the rail.

"Always good to have that little backup," said Rheem.
