Day 4 Action

The day started with ten players spread across two tables and went to nine within an hour when Mike Wattel hit the rail in No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw when he turned over a ten-eight and was drawing dead to Volpe’s ten-six.

Daniel Negreanu came short in his bid for the Chip Reese trophy, finishing in ninth place after Leng made a set of jacks in Pot-Limit Omaha to defeat Negreanu’s pair of aces. Nick Schulman followed soon behind in eighth place when his queens and eights ran into Brewer’s straight in Limit Hold’em.

The final seven players moved to a final table and played for more than four hours before Matt Glantz hit the rail in seventh place on a counterfeit two-pair during a wild four-way Omaha Hi-Lo hand that saw Leng and Elezra split the pot.

The final six players became five 40 minutes later when Josh Arieh was eliminated in sixth place by Elezra’s two-pair in Pot-Limit Omaha.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Action folded around to the blinds, where Eli Elezra limped from the small. Josh Arieh raised to 150,000 from the big and Elezra called.

Both players checked on the {8-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop and then Elezra led out for 350,000 on the {10-Diamonds} turn. Arieh shoved for his remaining stack and Elezra quickly called.

Eli Elezra: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Josh Arieh: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Elezra was ahead with his two pair, and the {7-Diamonds} river kept Elezra out in front — eliminating Arieh in sixth place.

Omaha Hi-Lo

Matt Glantz raised under-the-gun and was called by Eli Elezra in the hijack, Ryan Leng in the small blind, and Dan Cates in the big blind.

All four players checked on the {5-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} flop and Leng checked to Cates on the {7-Spades} turn, who bet. Glantz called all in for his remaining chips and and both Elezra and Leng called as well.

The {q-Spades} completed the board and everyone checked down.

Leng held {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for the high, Elezra held {j-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for the low, Cates held {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and mucked, and Glantz held {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} for a counterfeited two pair — eliminating him in seventh place.

No-Limit Hold'em

Dan Cates raised to 100,000 from under the gun and Eli Elezra called from the cutoff while Ryan Leng came along from the big blind.

The flop was {10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Spades} and all three players checked.

The turn was {j-Spades} and Leng checked. Cates bet 550,000 and Elezra folded while Leng called.

The river was {7-Clubs} and Leng checked once more. Cates bet 1.15 million and Leng went deep into the tank.

"All I wanted was a jack on the turn," Leng said as he spent nearly five minutes thinking.

Cates sat like a statue.

"You look like you want me to pay you."

Leng tossed the losing hand in the muck.

With some encouragement from the table, Cates showed the bluff {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

"You're a wild man," one observer said.

Glantz called, and Brewer announced a full house as he tabled {2-}{3-}{3-}. Glantz tabled {a-}{8-}{6-} for a ten-low, which was enough to scoop the pot.

Matt Glantz: {x-}{x-}/{8-}{5-}{q-}{2-}/{x-}
Josh Arieh: {x-}{x-}/{7-}{j-}{8-}{j-}/{x-}

On the very next hand (catching up on fifth street), Arieh called down bets from Glantz on fifth though seventh and Glantz turned over {j-}{6-}{4-} for an eight-low. Arieh couldn't beat it and mucked — awarding the pot to Glantz.
