Jake Daniels Bags Chip Lead After Day 1 of Event #6: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em

Nível 8 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

The first No-Limit Hold'em High Roller event got underway today at the 2021 World Series of Poker with Event #6: $25,000 High Roller NLHE kicking off in the afternoon. A total of 135 entries were recorded on Day 1, and Jake Daniels topped the 54 remaining players, holding the chip lead with 1,182,000 chips.

Daniels had a brilliant end to the day, accumulating the majority of his chips in the final two levels of the night. It started off as an innocent hand, but it quickly turned into the largest pot of the day when Daniels collided with Eric Worre. Worre check-raised the flop, bet the turn, and shoved all-in on the river, picking up a call from Daniels the entire way. Worre turned over a small pair as a bluff, and Daniels held top pair to scoop the pot.

Just moments later, Daniels eliminated Daniel Negreanu in a coin flip when just about everything seemed to be going Daniels' way. It wasn't until recently that Daniels joined the high-roller scene but has since been on a tear with several podium finishes that resulted in six-figure paydays. Over the past two years, Daniels has accumulated nearly almost all of his $2.1 million in career earnings.

Some other big stacks to join Daniels at the top of the leaderboard include Michael Liang (1,028,000), James Chen (835,000), Jake Schindler (667,000), and Clayton Kalisek (610,000). The field was littered with big names and previous WSOP bracelet winners, some of which will return for Day 2 and others that will not. Most notably, Michael Addamo burned through both of his bullets today so will not be in the hunt for another WSOP title and another big payday.

As per usual in these high-stakes tournaments, there was no shortage of action to begin the day, even though players started with 150 big blinds. In the first hand of the day, Brian Altman found his entire stack in the middle, but his opponent reluctantly laid his hand down. Altman continued that momentum throughout the day but tailed off in the later stages.

There will be at least 54 players returning for Day 2 tomorrow, which gets underway at 2 p.m. local time. Late registration remains open until the start of play, and there will likely be a flurry of late entries making their way into the Amazon Room with hopes of receiving a share of the prize pool.

The blinds resume at 5,000/10,000 and a 10,000 big blind ante, and all new starting stacks will begin with 150,000 chips. The schedule for the day calls for 60-minute levels with a dinner break after six levels. Play will conclude once a final table is reached, and those players will return on Day 3 of the tournament.

Follow along for all of the up-to-date action as the PokerNews live reporting team will be here to bring you all of the live updates throughout the tournament.

Negreanu's Stack Added to Daniels'

Nível 8 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu was still sitting on a shorter stack of just over 10 big blinds and he moved all in for just over 100,000 in early position. Chipleader, Jacob Daniels, was waiting in the cutoff and made the call when the action folded around.

Daniel Negreanu: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Jacob Daniels: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

"Small cards!" Negreanu cheered as the dealer spread the flop of {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Negreanu remained in the lead with his pair of jacks but the {q-Diamonds} on the turn gave Daniels a pair of queens. The {a-Hearts} on the river changed nothing and Negreanu sent his chips to the big stack of Daniels.

Joy for Imsirovic After Doubling Through Perry

Nível 7 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Ali Imsirovic
Ali Imsirovic

Ali Imsirovic opened to 12,000 from under the gun and Sean Perry was the only one to call from the big blind. The two players saw a flop of {q-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Perry check-called a bet of 8,000 from Imsirovic.

The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and Perry checked again. Imsirovic sized up this time with a bet of 55,000 which Perry called again.

The {6-Clubs} paired the board on the river and Perry checked for the third time. Imsirovic jammed all in for 112,000 and Perry wasted little time before calling. Perry appeared to show a queen but when Imsirovic tabled {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a straight, Perry's hand quickly hit the muck.

Mikita Badziakouski three-bet jammed all-in and got a call from Eric Worre.

Mikita Badziakouski: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Eric Worre: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The flop came {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and it looked like a sure double for Badziakouski after the {7-Diamonds} turn. But the river brought the {8-Clubs} and Worre won the hand with a set.

Addamo Out on Second Bullet

Nível 5 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Michael Addamo
Michael Addamo

Michael Addamo was on his second bullet and had just lost a portion of his stack when he bet 40,000 on the river and folded to a jam.

The very next hand, he three-bet jammed in the small blind for around 45,000 and the big blind called.

Michael Addamo: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Big Blind: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

It looked like Addamo could double as the board came out {3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, but the {k-Hearts} river gave his opponent the best hand and he was eliminated on his second bullet. Afterward, he walked over to Daniel Negreanu and appeared to tell him what happened.

Addamo Eliminated With Aces Full Against Quads

Nível 4 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Ankush Mandavia - Michael Addamo
Ankush Mandavia - Michael Addamo

Michael Addamo was eliminated in a sick cooler against Ankush Mandavia.

Addamo bet around 13,000 in position on a flop of {10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Mandavia called. The turn brought the {q-Diamonds} and Addamo tanked before firing a bet of 25,000, which his opponent called.

Addamo looked like a statue when checked to on the {a-Clubs} river and eventually moved all-in for around 85,000.

His opponent snapped and showed {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} for quads, and Addamo looked sick as he stared at his cards. He showed the table he had {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} for aces full and quietly gathered his belongings.

Koon Leaves Himself With Crumbs, Busted Soon After

Nível 4 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Action was picked up with Jason Koon in the midst of a decision on the river with the board reading {2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. The pot had about 53,000 in the middle and Koon was facing a river bet of 25,000 from Julien Martini.

Koon sat back and ate his dinner while taking his time with the decision as it was for most of his remaining stack of about 32,000. He checked his cards a few times in between bites and said he had a pretty good hand.

Eventually, he called by placing the chips closer to Martini's stack than to the middle as if to say he knew he was giving the chips away. Sure enough, Martini showed the {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} which was the winner as Koon mucked and was left with a couple of blinds.

Shortly afterwards, he got all-in in late position against an early position opponent.

Jason Koon: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

"This is not the flip I want to win," Koon said as the board ran out {3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and he was busted.

Kornuth Shows a Deuce

Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Joe McKeehen raised to 3,500 from under the gun and was called by Julien Martini in the cutoff and Chance Kornuth on the button. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and the action checked to Kornuth who bet 8,000. McKeehen folded but Martini made the call.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and Martini check-called another bet of 12,000 from Kornuth. The {q-Clubs} landed on the river and Martini quickly checked again. Kornuth ripped all in, putting Martini to the test for his remaining 97,000.

Martini ditched his cards and Kornuth let him choose one of his cards to flip over. It happened to be the {2-Diamonds} which got the table mumbling over what the other card could be.
