Nível 17

Danny Wong

Danny Wong cruised through the day in dominating fashion to take an almost 600,000 chip cushion into Monday’s final day of Event #57: $10,000 2-7 Triple Draw Championship.

The day began with 43 players following the end of late registration, making for a total of 90 entries and a prize pool of $746,000. Only eight players remain, with just one besides Wong over a million in chips. Brian Yoon holds that distinction (1,170,000), while Wil Wilkinson is not far behind with 945,000.

The night played a bit past the expected end time because bubble play was extended before dinner break, with the final 15 players choosing to postpone dinner until the bubble burst.

A few hands past the scheduled dinner time, Anthony Zinno became the bubble boy as he was eliminated in a hand versus Joao Vieira.

Once the bubble burst, those that made the money but didn’t survive the night included Mike Matusow (14th - $16,552), Shaun Deeb (13th - $16,552), Daniel Zack (12th - $20,057), Michael Trivett (11th - $20,057), Nathan Gamble (10th - $20,057), and Dan Smith (9th - $24,910).

Plenty of other stars unfortunately fell short of the money including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Jake Schwartz, and Adam Owen.

For those that survived the day and will play for the bracelet Monday, they’ll all be chasing Wong, who seemingly couldn’t lose a hand, even when challenged by Yoon who was the only person who could conceivably catch him as the night went on.

Play will resume at 2:00 pm local time on the outer feature tables of the Thunderdome. They’ll begin on Level 18 with blinds of 10,000 and 20,000 and betting limits of 20,000 and 40,000, and play down to a winner, who will take home $240,341 and that highly sought after WSOP gold bracelet.

"Are you pat?" Thorpe asked. "Because I am."

"Are you bluffing?" Vieira replied.

"No."

Vieira checked the second draw and called another bet from Thorpe. Vieira took one card on the third draw.

"Do you know what the fun thing about my hand is?" Thorpe continued. "I'm still pat. Are you drawing live is the question."

Vieira bet after the third draw and Thorpe snap-called.

"Fours," Vieira said.

"Fours!?" Thorpe shouted. "Why are you betting fours!"

Thorpe turned over {8-}{7-}{5-}{3-}{2-} to take the pot with a number 11.

"I was going to check back," Thorpe promised.

Gamble's Monumental Moment

Nível 17
Nathan Gamble
Nathan Gamble

"This is a monumental moment," Gamble said to the table as he raised from under the gun. There was not much acknowledgement from the table of the moment and action folded around to Joao Vieira on the big blind. Gamble had around 55,000 left and Vieira was thinking it over.

Mike Thorpe began to question the players in the hand.

"What is going through your mind right now?"

Gamble explained that they were thinking about how the bets would play out, and at what point in the hand he might commit all of his chips.

"I don't think," Thorpe said.

On the first draw, Gamble took two and Vieira drew three. Vieira bet and Gamble called.

Both players took one on the second draw and checked.

On the third draw, both players took one. Vieira checked and Gamble bet. He had just one 5,000 chip behind.

Vieira thought it over.

"This is a good spot for a bluff," he said as he called.

Gamble turned over {8-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-} and Vieira mucked his hand.

Michael Trivett offered support to Gamble.

"Us gingers are hard to kill."

"Yes! Make sure that ends up on PokerNews," Gamble said.

Daniel Zack Eliminated in 12th Place ($20,057)

Nível 16
Dan Zack

With a pair of very short stacks yet to act, Don Nguyen raised. Dan Smith moved all-in for his last 30,000, and in the big blind, Daniel Zack called for his last 17,000.

Zack had the support of Mike Thorpe, who held his hand through the all-in ordeal, but he would need more than Thorpe's support as he started by drawing four cards. Nguyen and Smith each drew two behind him.

On the second draw, Zack improved to a two-card draw, but Nguyen stood pat and Smith drew just one.

On the final round, Zack was down to a one-card draw, while both his opponents patted.

Smith showed that he had made {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}, giving him a high chance of a triple-up, especially after Nguyen mucked. Zack showed {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}, with a chance to draw a deuce to win and survive.

He squeezed a none-across, giving him a chance of hitting that deuce, but it turned out to be another {3-}, ending his night in 12th place.

Each player then drew one card and Yoon led out again. Once more, Wong called.
