Friedman Looking to Become a Three-Time Champion of Event #36: $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship

Nível 17 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Adam Friedman
Adam Friedman

The penultimate day of Event #36: $10,000 Dealer’s Choice Championship has come to a completion. After a solid twelve hours on the felt, the tournament has reached its final 10 players.

Heading into the final day all eyes will be on Adam Friedman and his attempt at a three-peat in this very event. He is currently the reigning two-time winner of this Championship event. This would be an amazing feat for a multitude of reasons, the $10,000 buy-in and dealer’s choice as two of the main ones. To complete a three-peat of such a prestigious event would be something to be remembered for many years to come.

Also looking to further cement his legendary status in WSOP history is none other than Phil Hellmuth. He has had a ridiculous start to this year’s WSOP, with multiple final tables as well as his 16th gold bracelet already locked up, Hellmuth will be going for #17 just three days after winning #16 in the Event #31: $1,500 Deuce to Seven Lowball Draw. Look for Hellmuth to keep everyone on their toes as he goes for even more WSOP gold and history.

Joining Hellmuth and Friedman in the quest for cash and WSOP gold are Mike Matusow and Daniel Negreanu, each looking to add a new bracelet to their respective collections.

The play on day 2 was very fast right out of the gate with eliminations coming at a rapid pace. Johannes Becker, Ari Engel, and Sorel Mizzi all made early exits. As the players inched closer to the money bubble, however, things began to slow. It was not until near the end of level 15 that the money was reached. Benny Glaser had the misfortune of being the true bubble as he finished 15th when his ace-high failed to hold against the king-high of Friedman in No-Limit Hold’em.

After the money bubble burst, there were a few quick eliminations as Chip Jett (14th - $17,103), Ryan Miller (13th - $17,103), Scott Seiver (12th - $20,726), and Ray Henson (11th - $20,726) all hit the rail, but each exited with cash for their efforts.

Remaining Payouts

The remaining ten players will return Wednesday afternoon and play for a coveted WSOP gold bracelet and the $248,350 first-place cash.

Please stay tuned to PokerNews for live updates of this, as well as every 2021 WSOP event, or live here at The Rio Hotel and Casino in the Amazon Room where the final 10 players will be returning Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. (PST) local time where they will play down to one winner.

Friedman Gets the Fold from Schwartz

No Limit Hold'em

On a completed board of {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, Adam Friedman tossed out a bet of 138,000 chips against Jake Schwartz. That sent Schwartz deep into the tank. He eventually mucked and Friedman was pushed the pot.

With that hand, Friedman has eclipsed the million chip mark.

Scott Seiver Eliminated in 12th Place ($20,726)

Big O Hi-Lo

Scott Seiver raised the button and Adam Friedman three-bet the pot to 39,000, which Seiver called. On a flop of {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, Friedman announced "okay the rest of it" and bet the pot, Seiver called all-in for fewer than that.

Scott Seiver: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Adam Friedman: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

The heart draw of Seiver was dominated but he still had the open-ended straight draw. Nothing changed on the {8-Spades} turn and the {6-Clubs} river sent Seiver to the rail in 12th place for a payday of $20,726.

Matt Glantz: {j-}{6-}{2-}{3-}{9-}{a-} / {7-}
Ryan Miller: {8-}{7-} / {4-}{5-}{7-}{5-} / {q-}

Ryan Miller had doubled his short stack through Phil Hellmuth and was then at risk shortly after. The cards were already mashed together and Miller was drawing very slim on sixth after pairing up the seven and five. Glantz got there with a seven-six and Miller departed in 13th place.

No-Limit Hold'em

Daniel Negreanu raised the button and Benny Glaser stuck his last few chips in from the big blind.

Benny Glaser: {k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Daniel Negreanu: {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Glaser doubled.

One hand later, Glaser open-shoved the small blind for 37,000 and Adam Friedman called after looking at just one card.

"I am not even looking at the other card."

"I hope it's a king," Glaser said and the small talk continued for a bit. In the meanwhile, Scott Seiver and Matt Glantz tangled in a long pot that brought no showdown and only then the cards were flipped over.

Benny Glaser: {a-Spades}{2-Hearts}
Adam Friedman: {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

The {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop improved Friedman and he held onto the lead on the {6-Clubs} turn and {j-Hearts} river to burst the money bubble.

Hartmann Eliminated by Miller

Badeucey

Ryan Miller had previously complained about coming up short in the most unlucky hand of the WSOP and then took on Tony Hartmann, who was all-in for just 38,000.

On the second draw, Miller patted and Hartmann took two cards. Miller patted again and Hartmann glanced at his cards, then opted to pat as well. "I have a seven seven," Miller announced and showed the {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} / {2-Spades} for a Seven-Dugi and a seven-six low.

Hartmann only had the {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} / {5-Clubs} for a Nine-Dugi and a nine-seven low to bust two spots away from the money.

Another Two Knockouts in a Row for Matusow

Ismael Bojang
Ismael Bojang

No-Limit Hold'em

Ismael Bojang got his chips in preflop with the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} and was called by Mike Matusow with the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}. The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Matusow spiked the superior two pair on the turn.

In the very next hand, Nacho Barbero jammed for just 29,000 from under the gun and Matusow flat-called out of the small blind.

Nacho Barbero: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Mike Matusow: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

No paint appeared on the {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} board and Matusow earned the second back-to-back knockouts of the day.

The action was picked up on a board of {q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Phil Hellmuth had moved all-in for his remaining 253,000 chips. Nacho Barbero tanked for a while before he called and was shown the bad news when Hellmuth tabled {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs} for top set queens versus the {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} and second set for Barbero.

The river was a meaningless {8-Clubs} and Hellmuth was awarded the pot.
