Event #54: $10,000 Heads Up NLHE Championship Kicks Off at 6 PM UTC

Event #54 Banner

Today it's time for one of the tournaments that many players look forward to during the summer. Event #54: $10,000 Heads Up NLHE Championship will kick off at 6 p.m. UTC with a full field of 128 players trying to get to the semi-finals which will be played out on the following Saturday. One of the most anticipated tournaments during the 2020 GGPoker WSOP Online Bracelet Events had a cap of 128 players which was reached two days ago already.

Sean Swingruber won the championship in 2019 when he defeated Ben Yu heads-up. Players like Kristen Bicknell, Jake Schindler, and Matthias Eibinger reached the final eight last year and both Bicknell and Schindler are back in the race today.

GGPoker has changed things up for today and every player in this tournament will be playing under their real names instead of their nicknames. A tournament bracket will be set up about an hour before the start and will be posted once the dust of registrations has settled.

Felipe Ramos, Bertrand Grospellier, Daniel Negreanu, Fedor Holz, Pete Chen, Danny Tang, Michael Soyza, Thai Ha, and Guo Dong are some of the GG Network representatives who will be playing today together with players like Leon Tsoukernik, Dan Bilzerian, Fedor Kruse, Johan Gulbert and Michiel Van Elsacker.

When the players start their heads-up matches, they will get 60,000 chips in their starting stacks. The levels will go up every 12 minutes and start at 150/300 with no antes in play. The starting stacks will reset at the start of each round and five rounds will be played today until there are four players left. The regular 6-minute breaks will still take place at 55 minutes past each hour.

Sixteen players will get paid as long as the field remains full until the heads-up matches really start and the winner will walk away on Saturday, August 15 with$360,480 plus a WSOP Europe Package.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be here from the first raise until the final match is over for today, so make sure to follow along.

5 Things You Don’t Know About the WSOP Online on GGPoker

Now through the first part of September, the WSOP Online will be exclusively on GGPoker, so whether you're playing on the client for the first time or you're a seasoned online pro, we thought we'd bring you five things you didn't know about the WSOP Online on GGPoker.

  • 1. STAKING on DAY 2:
    Poker fans and players can now buy a piece of their favourite player's action or sell their own should they survive Day 1 of phased tournaments.
  • 2. Convert Multiple Event Tickets into T$
    After the series has finished, your unused tickets will be exchanged for T$ that you can use to enter any tournament on GGPoker
  • 3. Pick Your Own WSOP Event
    When the WSOP Online schedule on GGPoker was announced, the poker community was intrigued to see a new type of bracelet event announced! Three 'People's Choice' events were announced, with the formats and buy-ins yet to be announced.
  • 4. Best Stack Forward
    Any player that makes it to the end of a Day 1 with a stack is allowed to take part in additional Day 1s if they want to, providing they have not exceeded the maximum number of re-entries.
    However, if a player finishes multiple Day 1s with chips, only the highest chip stack will go to Day 2.
  • 5. Take Advantage of Bubble Protection
    GGPoker's popular Bubble Protection is available throughout the WSOP Online. It's available for all non-phase events with buy-ins less than $999. This means that if you register before the start of play and go on to bubble the tournament, you'll receive your buy-in back.

Leah vs Bilzerian

Blinds: 200/400

Mike Leah raised to 1,000 from the button and Dan Bilzerian defended. The flop came {8-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, Bilzerian check-raised the 1,000 continuation-bet of Leah to 4,000 and was called. The turn was the {10-Diamonds}, Bilzerian bet 19,600 and Leah took some time before making the call in the end. The river completed the board with the {7-Diamonds} and Bilzerian shoved with the slightly bigger stack with {k-Clubs}{2-Spades} while Leah called the bluff for the 34,2777 he had behind with {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} for the flopped set of aces to leave Bilzerian behind with a mere 2,246.

The hand after, Bilzerian pushed everything in from the button and was called by Leah.

Dan Bilzerian: {k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Mike Leah: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for Leah to flop a pair of treys while Bilzerian turned a pair of deuces but got no further help of the board as he was eliminated.
