Negreanu Third in Chips for Day 2 of the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed High Roller

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

After 10 one-hour levels on Day 1 of Event #42: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed High Roller, a field of 192 entries played down to 101 who will return today to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino when the action recommences at Level 11 at blinds of 1,500/3,000, with late registration still open for the first two levels of Day 2.

Poker superstar Daniel Negreanu will be third in chips when the action resumes at 2 p.m. local time after a red-hot final level of the night. The Canadian, who has already cashed for more than $17 million at the WSOP, is chasing a seventh gold bracelet. Negreanu already came close earlier this summer and eventually finished third in Event #22: $1,500 Eight Game Mix.

Negreanu's impressive stack of 532,000 only trails the 617,500 of Konstantin Beylin and Veselin Karakitukov, who bagged up 549,500. Aaron Katz is close behind Negreanu with 525,000 and comes fresh off a 6th place finish in Event #33: $50,000 Poker Players Championship. Other big stacks and notables for Day 2 include George Wolff (504,500), Len Ashby (498,500), Fraser MacIntyre (482,000), Chance Kornuth (473,500), Robert Mizrachi (453,000), 2017 fourth place finisher Artem Babakhanyan (436,000), Chris "BigHuni" Hunichen (374,000), Scotty Nguyen (347,500), Jason Koon (325,000), Brian Rast (312,500) and Paul Volpe (258,500).

Defending champion James Calderaro (234,500) is still on track to defend his title and PLO serial crusher Tommy Le (230,000), who has one bracelet and six WSOP Omaha Event final table appearances to his name, is aiming to better his runner-up finish in this very event from 2016.

As noted, all those that busted just once or haven't taken part at all yet are welcome to (re)join the action in the first two levels and the following break of Day 2, once Level 13 gets underway, the registration closes and the prize pool information will be finalized. The PokerNews team will be on the floor to provide all the action until a winner is crowned in this four-day event.
