Dan Heimiller Leads Final 14, Ivey and Negreanu Still Alive

Nível 20
Dan Heimiller - Chip Leader
Dan Heimiller - Chip Leader

It was an exciting day of poker here in the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino as 106 players returned with the hopes of moving through the money bubble and beyond. At the end of the day, just 14 players bagged up with none other than Event #17: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship champion Dan Heimiller leading the field. Heimiller will bring a stack of 226,000 into Day 3.

While Heimiller holds the lead, others are hot on his heels heading into the third and final day. WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Steury is looking for his second piece of gold and is in a solid position to earn it, bagging up just one chip less than Heimiller with 225,000. Rounding out the top three is nine-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Phil Ivey with 220,500. This is Ivey's third cash of the series and he is poised to earn a seat at his first final table of the summer. A final table appearance would put Ivey in contention to win his 10th bracelet, which would tie him with the likes of Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan.

Outside of the top three, the field remains stacked with notable names returning for the third day. Stephen Chidwick bagged up in the middle of the pack and will return with 174,000 in chips. Right behind Chidwick is six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu who bagged 132,500. This marks Negreanu's eighth cash of the summer and he'll be looking for his second final table appearance. Also returning for Day 3 is Amnon Filippi (117,500) and Alex Rocha (70,000).

While those players managed to survive the second day of play, others were not as fortunate. Start-of-day chip leader Eric Crain, for example, was eliminated before the field reached the money. Others to find elimination without pay included Maria Ho, Joe Hachem, Konstantin Puchkov, Ali Eslami, Justin Bonomo, and Brett Jungblut.

The top 49 players made the money and were guaranteed a payday of at least $3,063. Some of the notable players to fall in the money include Max Pescatori (47th), Gabriel Nassif (46th), John Cernuto (42nd), Greg Raymer (40th), Bill Chen (34th), Brandon Cantu (29th), Martin Staszko (26th), and David "ODB" Baker (20th).

Play resumes at 2 p.m. in the Amazon room where the field will be whittle down until a champion is crowned. As always, PokerNews will be on hand to provide all of the latest from the tournament felt.

Ivey: {X-}{X-} / {5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} / {X-}
Buchalter: {X-}{X-} / {4-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} / {X-}

Picking up the action on sixth street, Yehuda Buchalter bet with a pair of queens showing. Phil Ivey raised, Buchalter called and then Buchalter check-called a bet from Ivey on seventh street.

Ivey tabled {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a nine-high straight, Buchalter mucked and Ivey collected the pot.

The next hand...

Ivey: {X-}{X-} / {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-}{6-} / {X-}
Filippi: {X-}{X-} / {8-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{A-Spades} / {X-}

Again picking it up on sixth street, Filippi check-called bets from Ivey on sixth and seventh street. Ivey tabled {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} as his startin down cards for rolled up tens, besting Filippi's {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{Q-} for aces up.

Heimiller Bests Negreanu

Limit Hold'em

Dan Heimiller was in the cutoff and raised the action. The button and small blind folded, putting action on Daniel Negreanu. He tossed out a call and the two saw a {10-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop. Negreanu checked over to Heimiller who continued out. Negreanu check-raised only to have Heimiller stick around.

Fourth street paired the board with the {10-Diamonds} and Negreanu kept his aggression with a bet. On this street, however, it was Heimiller who made a raise. Negreanu called and the {8-Hearts} hit the river. Negreanu checked, Heimiller fired, and Negreanu let go of his cards. Heimiller took down the pot and now has about 200,000.

Filippi Doubles Through Ivey

Nível 20

Pot-Limit Omaha

Amnon Filippi raised to 7,500 from under the gun and it folded around to Phil Ivey in the hijack. Ivey made it 27,500 to go only to have Filippi four-bet ship all in over the top for 59,500. Ivey called and the hands were turned over.

Filippi: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Ivey: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The board ran out {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{K-Hearts}, giving Filippi a winning full house of kings full of queens. He scored the full double and now has about 123,500. Ivey, on the other hand, has dropped to 108,000.

2-7 Triple Draw

Kiyokazu Nishikawa was short-stacked and got the rest of his chips all in before the draw against Yuebin Guo. On the first draw, Nishikawa pulled one new card. Guo followed suit and also pulled one new card. They each took one card on the second draw as well, only to both stand pat for the final draw.

Nishikawa tabled {J-}{8-}{6-}{5-}{2-} but was ultimately behind Guo's {9-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}. Guo scored the knockout and now has about 134,000. Nishikawa's elimination has prompted a re-draw to the final two tables of seven.
