Boeree Bringing in Chips

After a player in middle posiiton made it 1,150 to see a flop action was on Live Boeree in the big blind. Slowly she looked at the bet her opponent made, then the stack of chips in front of him, and finally at her opponent. The short stacked Boeree then moved all in for 7,200. Her opponent barely hesitated and threw in a stack of chips to cover the pokerstars pro.

Boeree: {A-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Boeree had the slight lead and was able to maintain it on a {6-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. With a {j-Diamonds} on the turn Boeree paired up and would now need to avoid a king or a queen to stay alive in the tournament. Luckily for her a {9-Diamonds} rolled off the deck and Boeree was able to double up.

Laak-in' It Down

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

A player in middle position opened with a raise to 1,150. Phil Laak, sitting to his left in a toboggan and red "Action Comics" t-shirt, quickly called, and it folded around. The flop came {5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}, Laak's opponent fired 1,600, and Laak instantly mucked.

Despite his t-shirt, Laak hasn't been seeking too much action during the first hour today. He presently sits with about 86,000.

Huston, We Have a Problem

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

While carousing around the Purple Section of the Amazon Room, we noticed that Seat 1 at Table 361 was empty. Upon examining the bag on the chair, we learned that the occupant's name is Cory Huston, and he's from the Blue Hen State of Delaware.

Unlike Phil Hellmuth, who missed the start of Day 2a yesterday, Huston has a decent-sized stack with 31,275 chips, but he'll continue to blind out until he arrives. We'll keep an eye out for further developments - maybe he'll be lucky enough to have security break into his room and wake him up so that he can come play.

“Top Gun Kathy”

With around 7,500 in the pot already on an {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, the small blind led for 5,000 and Kathy Liebert raised to 15,000 from the big. The small blind folded and showed the {A-Hearts} for top pair which got Liebert to reveal {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for middle set. The dealer then said, “You’re still the top gun Kathy” to Liebert as she raked in the pot.

Dunst Doubles

We caught up with the action just as Tony Dunst had pushed all in for his last 6,000. A player already in the pot called from early position.

"You're way ahead," Dunst's opponent said.

"I hope you don' have a pair," Dunst replied.

His opponent tabled {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and said, "I couldn't fold getting two-to-one."

Dunst flipped over {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}, leaving him as a favorite to double up.

The {5-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{3-Spades} board was no help to Dunst's opponent and Dunst doubled (and then some) to 14,000.

Section Breaking Order

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

We're breaking today from high to low in Pavilion first, Yellow > White > Black, and then from low to high in Amazon, Tan > Blue > Orange > Purple - though we doubt we will break more than into Tan today.

Shulman Doubles

A middle position player opened for 1,100 and Jeff Shulman, also in middle position, moved all in for his last 5,300. The opener made the call to put Shulman at risk as the players turned up their hands.

Shulman:{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Opponent: {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

Shulman was slighty ahead and stayed in front on the {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop although his opponent picked up an inside-straight draw. The {A-Hearts} on the turn was as good of a card as Shulman could have asked for as his opponent would now need a ten and a ten only to deliver the knockout. The river was the {2-Spades} and Shulman secured the double up but was still short with not much more than a third of the original starting stack.

Carlos Up And Down

Juan Carlos Mortensen
Juan Carlos Mortensen

2001 Main Event Champion Carlos Mortensen started the day with with over 100,000 chips and has since gained even more to get up around 130,000. While Carlos has had a good start to the day, we did catch this hand where he lost a few after some big bets failed him.

A player in middle position raised it up to 1,200 and got a call from the small blind. Mortensen re-raised from the big blind to 5,200, the middle position player called, and the small blind folded.

The flop came down {9-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Mortensen bet out 4,850. The middle position player thought for a bit and made the call to see the {3-Hearts} turn. Both players (after quite a bit of thinking) checked and the river came {5-Spades}

Mortensen checked again, the middle position player bet 3,200 and Mortensen reluctantly called. The middle position player showed {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} and Mortensen mucked. He has fallen to around 112,000 which is just about what he started the day with. Still double average and with the knowledge of how to win the Main Event, Mortensen is as dangerous a player as we have in the field today
