Hinrichsen Leads After Day 1

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Andrew Hinrichsen
Andrew Hinrichsen

Day 1 of the AU$25,000 High Roller has come to a close. At the end of the first 10 levels on the structure sheet, 63 entries have been tallied and 31 of those remain. Leading the bunch will be World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Andrew Hinrichsen with 346,000 in chips.

Hinrichsen got a lot of his chips when he busted Kahle Burns early on in the day. The two saw a queen-high flop in a five-bet pot and Hinrichsen set Burns all in. Burns had pocket kings and quickly called, but Hinrichsen got there on the river with his {A-}{K-}, spiking an ace.

Another player hitting the rail on Day 1 was current WSOP Player of the Year frontrunner George Danzer. Danzer was busted by Greg Merson, and that leaves Brandon Shack-Harris with the ball in his court. Shack-Harris is still alive with 18 players left in the Main Event, and he could overtake Danzer if he places first or second in that one. If he happens to bust early, or even if he doesn't, Shack-Harris may fire a bullet in this event to earn extra points. We'll keep you posted on that story tomorrow.

Registration for this event will remain open until the start of Level 13. That means the field size could increase, but this has already proven to be a star-studded affair, as expected. Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Vanessa Rousso, and Ryan Riess all hopped in the event, but unfortunately for them, things didn't go so well and they were eliminated. On the other side of the coin, you've got Phil Hellmuth, Jonathan Duhamel, Greg Merson, and Mohsin Charania all advancing to Day 2.

As for now, it's off to get some sleep. Tomorrow the plan is to play down to the final table, and we'll be buckled in for a long day of exciting poker, as should you. Action starts at 2:30 p.m. local time, and we'll see you back here then.

Mo Done in By Big Slick

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jason Mo
Jason Mo

Phil Hellmuth opened for 5,000 under the gun only to have Jason Mo three-bet all in for roughly 47,000. The button folded, and then Joe Reina four-bet jammed from the small blind for approximately 135,000.

"What's going on?" Hellmuth asked. "It's like the cards come off differently down under."

Hellmuth released his cards and the hands were tabled.

Mo: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Reina: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Mo had kicker problems, and they didn't get resolved as the board ran out a dry {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

Meanwhile, Johnny Huynh was eliminated from the tournament over at Table 12.

Leah Five-Bets and Shows a Nine

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

From early position, Mike Leah opened the action with a raise to 4,000. Andy Lee reraised to 12,500 on the button, and then Jonathan Duhamel reraised to 27,000 from the big blind. Leah then made it 54,500 to go, and Lee folded. Duhamel also folded, and Leah was awarded the pot.

Leah showed just the {9-Spades} upon everyone folding.

Six More Hands

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The tournament staff has just announced the remaining players will play six more hands before bagging and tagging for the night. We're headed out to catch any last-minute action and to compile a list of chips counts. Stay tuned for those as well as a full recap of the Day 1 action.

Big Three-Way All In Results in Rousso's Elimination

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We missed the action unfold, but we do know a preflop raising war resulted in both Vanessa Rousso and Sam Khouiss getting their stacks in against Johnny Huynh.

Khouiss: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Rousso: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Huynh: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

The board ran out a dry {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Khouiss took down the huge pot. Meanwhile, Rousso was eliminated while Huynh was left with just 17,500 after the hand.

Steicke Eliminates Rast

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Brian Rast
Brian Rast

We picked up the action on a {7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop when Brian Rast checked from the big blind and David Steicke bet 10,000 from the cutoff. Rast responded with an all-in check-raise to 36,000, and Steicke thought for nearly a minute before making the call.

Rast: {7-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Steicke: {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}

Rast seemed surprised to see Steicke turn over an overpair, and he watched helplessly as both the {J-Hearts} turn and {A-Clubs} river failed to deliver him salvation.

Nines for Leah as Watson Dozes Off

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Fabian Quoss bet 12,000 on the {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, and his opponent, Mike Leah, made the call to see the {A-Clubs} come out on the turn. Quoss checked, and Leah checked behind. That brought the two players to the {Q-Spades} river card that paired the board, and Quoss checked. Leah bet 37,000, and Quoss went deep into the tank.

Quoss tanked for several minutes about the decision. In fact, he tanked so long that Mike Watson dozed off for a bit in the seat to the left of Leah. That got a little chuckle from Jonathan Duhamel and Jeff Rossiter. Eventually, Quoss folded. Leah showed the {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} and pulled in the pot.
