Portaro Tilts Esfandiari

Nível 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

Bruno Portaro had bet 900 on the {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts} board, and his opponent, Antonio Esfandiari, raised it up to 2,200. Portaro called, and the river completed the board with the {8-Clubs}. Portaro moved all in for 4,450, and Esfandiari snap-called.

Portaro tabled the {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a rivered straight, and Esfandiari mucked his hand.

"Nice hand, sir," said Esfandiari after taking a few sips of freshly squeezed juice.

A few moments later after Esfandiari joked about being tilted, Portaro asked that if Esfandiari talks to Joe Hachem, "Be sure to tell him that Bruno tilted you."

Fundaro Continues to Dominate

Nível 6 : 100/200, 25 ante
Giacomo Fundaro
Giacomo Fundaro

WPT champion Giacomo Fundaro is the chip leader on his table and took care of a short stack a few minutes ago. According to Ismael Bojang, the Italian raised from the button and then called the all in of the short stack from one seat over for approximately 2,000 in chips with {A-Spades} {10-Spades}.

He faced {A-Hearts} {5-Hearts} and the {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {4-Hearts} flop gave him trips whereas the opponent found a flush draw. To make sure that there is no suckout, Fundaro improved further with the {10-Diamonds} on the turn and he was guaranteed to claim the chips.

The last hand we saw Fundaro in a three-way hand to the {7-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} flop, where the player in the big blind as well as the Italian committed further chips. Timo Pfützenreuter folded and both remaining players checked the {A-Diamonds} on the turn. Fundaro seized control with a bet of 700 after the {3-Hearts} river and that was enough to avoid a showdown.

Bowen Finishes Off "Riess the Beast"

Nível 6 : 100/200, 25 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Any hope Ryan Riess had of making a comeback was just cut short courtesy of David Bowen.

We missed the final hand, but Steve Gee, Riess' fellow Octo-Niner, was kind enough to fill us in on some details. According to him, Riess raised preflop with {10-}{10-} and received two calls, including one from Bowen. The {9-}{8-}{3-} flop saw Riess get his remaining chips in against Bowen, who had flopped top pair with {9-}{j-}.

Riess got it in good, but the dealer promptly burned and turned another {9-} to give Bowen the lead. The river was a blank, and that was all she wrote for the 2013 WSOP Main Event champ. Fortunately for him, the Day 1c flight is about to begin so he'll have one more shot at advancing to Day 2.

Riess Doles Out a Double Then Doubles Himself

Nível 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

A preflop raising war saw Mark Bartrom shove all in against 2013 WSOP champ Ryan Riess, who looked him up.

Bartrom: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Riess: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

It was a bad spot for Riess as his pocket pair was dominated, and he paid for it after the board ran out a clean {5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Spades}{4-Spades}.

In the very next hand, Jan Suchanek opened for 525 from the cutoff and Riess responded by three-betting all in for 1,800 from the small blind. The big blind folded, and Suchanek made the call.

Suchanek: {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Riess: {q-Spades}{9-Spades}

Riess got it in good, and he improved to two pair on the {7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop. However, Suchanek did pick up an open-ended straight draw. The {3-Clubs} turn didn't complete it, and neither did the {3-Diamonds} river. With that, Riess was shipped the double.

Madsen Adds

Nível 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

From the cutoff seat, three-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Jeff Madsen raised to 450. The woman on the button called, and the player in the small blind also called. Before the dealer spread out the paired {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop, the player in the small blind had checked in the dark. This put the action on Madsen first, and he bet 650. The lady behind him folded, as did the player from the small blind, and Madsen picked up the pot.

Suchanek Trying to Claw Back

Nível 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

Previous big stack Jan Suchanek was overtaken by both Barnard Beh and David Bowen on Table 29, and the three of them were just involved in another hand. Suchanek had defended his small blind against an initial raise by Beh and the call from Bowen to see the {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop.

Suchanek fired 700, and Beh folded. Bowen came along with a call to see the {9-Hearts} on the turn. Suchanek, who sits fifth on New Zealand's all-time money list, fired 1,525 and that did the trick. Bowen double checked his cards and then tossed em to the dealer, giving Suchanek the pot.

Pfützenreuter Roasts Rubie

Nível 5 : 100/200, 0 ante
Brendon Rubie
Brendon Rubie

We saw local favorite Brendon Rubie was no longer seated at Table 32, and a quick check with the players there confirmed that he had been eliminated.

According to Ismael Bojang, it happened when Rubie shoved his short stack holding {10-}{10-} and Timo Pfützenreuter called with {a-}{q-}. An ace on the river spelled doom for Rubie, and he was left to decide whether or not he'd return for Day 1c, which is set to begin soon. We're guessing he will.

Two Down on 29

Nível 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

David Bowen raised to 450 from middle position and a short stack moved all in for 2,450 from two seats over. The action folded back to Bowen and he took some time before making the call with {A-}{10-}. The short stack had pocket sevens, but two overpairs on the board counterfitted his hand to award the pot to Bowen with the ace kicker.

Only a few minutes later, another short stack moved all in for less than 10 big blinds from the cutoff. Bernard Beh made the call out of the big blind with the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and was ahead preflop against his opponent's {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. The board ran out {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, awarding the pot to Beh with a flush.
