Gupta Grows

Nível 8 : 200/400, 50 ante

It appears that Piyush Gupta is our current chip leader with 34,000 in chips. Last time we checked, he had around 25,000 and has since earned three streets of value off Jaime Kaplan after raising from under the gun with pocket threes. Gupta fired all the way on an {A-}{4-}{K-}{3-}{10-} board, getting called each time, and his set was good.

Walking Sticks for Bojang

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Uros Brkic opened for 750 from the hijack and Ismael Bojang called him from the button. Jaime Kaplan came along from the small blind, and three players took a flop of {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Two checks saw Bojang bet 900, but he failed to shake either of his opponents as they both called.

All three players then checked the {4-Clubs} turn before Kaplan led out for 2,200 on the {8-Hearts} river. Brkic quickly folded, and Bojang thought for about a minute before making the call. Kaplan showed air with the {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and Bojang rolled over the {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to claim the pot.

Kings Bring Joy for Joyce

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Nathan Joyce got into a raising war with the gentleman just to his left, and he ended up being all in and at risk for his last 6,325 with the {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}. His opponent held the {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and there was no suckout on the {8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} board to award the pot to Joyce.

Who Folds Kings Anyways?

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante
Mike Leah
Mike Leah

We noticed Mike Leah walking by with a new tournament ticket and he headed to the upper area where the Day 1c field is located. A quick check of his table confirmed his former seat was now open and we inquired with Antonio Esfandiari to find out what happened.

Esfandiari said that he busted Leah with a big grin on his face and then informed us of the details.

There was a raise to 600 and a call before Esfandiari made it 1,700 to go. Leah moved all in for 6,500 chips out of the big blind, and Esfandiari said, "Well, you know, I am not the guy who folds kings."

Leah was in bad shape with {A-}{Q-} and could not connect with the board.

One of the Local Guys

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

There was some action to the river of a {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} board, but Luke Brabin and Daniel Levy ended up checking it on the end. Brabin had to show first and revealed the {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for an open-ended straight draw on the flop that improved to a pair. Levy turned over the {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a pair of tens as well, but his kicker played and he raked in the pot.

Aces vs. Kings

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante
Jan Suchanek
Jan Suchanek

Noah Novick opened for 700 from the under-the-gun position and a player in middle position called. When action reached Jan Suchanek in the small blind, he opted for a three-bet to 3,100. Novick announced a raise, and then came in for the minimum of 5,500. The third player folded, and Suchanek declared himself all in. Novick had about 8,000 total and called off.

Suchanek: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Novick: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

It appeared to be a cooler for Suchanek, but he got lucky when the {3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{k-Clubs} flop delivered him a set. Neither the {J-Clubs} turn nor {4-Spades} river helped Novick, and he was eliminated from the tournament while Suchanek chipped up to 22,000.

Portaro Strikes Again

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Bruno Portaro just won another pot and increased his stack to 11,000. The money went in preflop for about 3,000 chips against a short stack and Portaro had the better kicker with the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} versus the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. The {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades} board failed to improve the short stack, and Portaro raked in the pot.

Murphy's Aces Hold in Three-Way All In

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Daniel Murphy was the initial raiser and a short stack moved all in for what looked like 4,000 in chips from the button. Ben van der Veen moved all in over the top from the small blind, and Murphy had a very easy call for his last 9,075 chips with the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}. The short stack was doomed with the {Q-Hearts}{K-Spades} and drawing dead after the turn, whereas van der Veen could still hope with the [Tc {10-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and just like that Murphy scooped in the pot.

Pocket Cowboys for Portaro

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Antonio Esfandiari opened for 700 under the gun and received a call from Mike Leah in the hijack. Bruno Portaro then three-bet to 2,100 from the cutoff, leaving himself just 1,125 behind. The button and both blinds folded, and then Esfandiari got out of the way. Leah thought for nearly 90 seconds before four-betting, and of course Portaro called off.

Portaro: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Leah: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}

The {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop gave Leah a pair of eights, but he needed more help if he hoped to crack Portaro's big pocket pair. The {4-Clubs} turn didn't do it, and neither did the {2-Diamonds} river. The cowboys held for Portaro and he scored the double.
