WCOOP 2020: High Stakes Crusher Preben “prebz” Stokkan Continues to Progress and KO

Nível 14 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

When it comes to Progressive Knockout tournaments (aka PKOs or Bounty Builders), there aren’t many players as accomplished as Norway’s Preben “prebz” Stokkan.

His love affair with PKOs started back in 2017 during the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) when he won his first title in a Thursday Thrill special edition for $160K plus $93K in bounties. He’s been hunting bounties ever since.

“I really enjoy the KOs!” Stokkan says as he gears up for a WCOOP Sunday session. “I probably like them more than freezeouts. They are less solved so I think the edge in them can be bigger. PKOs require more intuitive thinking regarding bet sizing and preflop strategy.”

It’s safe to say that in 2020 Stokkan has a pretty big edge.

"IN_THE_ZONE" Won't Back Down

Nível 13 : 1,750/3,500, 0 ante

"1MTM91" opened for 7,700 from middle position and then called "IN_THE_ZONE's" 24,850 three-bet from the big blind to see a {a-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop appear.

"IN_THE_ZONE" continued for 35,000 and "1MTM91" called bringing the {7-Diamonds} turn.

"IN_THE_ZONE" fired out another bet of 121,450 and the price was too much as "1MTM91" mucked their hand.

Aggression Pays Off for Kyllönen

Nível 13 : 1,750/3,500, 0 ante
Jens Kyllonen
Jens Kyllonen

Jens "Jeans89" Kyllönen raised to 7,500 from under the gun and Espen "locomi" Myrmo three-bet to 27,000 from the button.

The blinds folded and action was back on Kyllönen who called to see a {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop appear. Kyllönen checked to Myrmo who continued for 14,625 and Kyllönen raised to 102,375.

The price was too steep for Myrmo as he mucked his hand giving the pot to Kyllönen.

"nikolaaa1234" opened for 7,800 from middle position and then called Joel "Odonkor1" Nordkvist's 26,400 three-bet from the small blind.

Nordkvist continued for 55,800 once the {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop appeared and then called off his 93,240 stack after "nikolaaa1234" raised to 111,600.

"nikolaaa1234": {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Joel "Odonkor1" Nordkvist: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

Nordkvist was ahead with his pocket aces and nothing changed after the {j-Diamonds} turn.

The {4-Diamonds} river completed both players draws but it was Nordkvist who held the better hand as he doubled-up with the diamond flush.

WCOOP 2020: A Bountiful $10K Sunday Slam for Dimitar Danchev

Dimitar Danchev

Helping kick off the 2020 World Championship of Online Poker was one of many marquee events that will play out this series, the two-day $10,300 buy-in Sunday Slam.

As a progressive knockout tournament, finding ways to stack as many opponents as possible was crucial. In the end 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champion Dimitar “KuuL” Danchev punched out the most of them to earn the title and just over $400,000 including bounties.

When speaking on the PokerStars WCOOP 2020 live stream about his win, Danchev acknowledged how important collecting those knockouts really was.

“My tournament went pretty good with winning a lot of bounties,” he says. “But it’s very important actually if you win a lot of bounties in such format to win the heads-up, so you keep all the bounties for yourself!”
