Hugo Spangenberg Leads 13 Players Into Day 3 of the PokerStars Festival Uruguay $3,300 High Roller

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

At the start of play on Day 2 in the $3,300 High Roller at the inaugural PokerStars Festival Uruguay, 34 players took their seats in pursuit of the top prize and championship trophy. By the time late registration and re-entries closed at the start of level 9, there were a total of 64 entries, generating a prize pool of $186,240. And at the end of the day, Argentinian player Hugo Spangenberg is at the head of the pack with a stack of 420,000. No other player bagged a stack in excess of 400,000, but with Christopher Franco (359,000), Ernesto Panno (346,000), and PokerStars Team Pro Leo Fernandez (329,000) not too far behind and the likes of recent World Series of Poker bracelet winner Andres Korn (224,000) and Maria Lampropulos (49,000) still in the hunt, the path to victory won't be easy for anyone.

Unfortunately, not all the familiar faces and fan favorites who took to the felt on Day 2 survived to the day's end. Ramiro Petrone, PokerStars Cup Uruguay winner Gustavo Prato, American grinder Mark Scacewater, and bracelet winner Ivan Luca were among the fallen.

Day 3 play will kick off at noon local time on Saturday and the 13 remaining players will battle it out until a champion is crowned. Blinds will be 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000-chip ante when play resumes. Nine places will be paid with a min-cash good for $5,400 and $54,480 going to the eventual winner. The full seat draw is below. Maria Lampropulos Doubles Through Jean Sierra

Catching the action on a board of {J-Hearts}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} Jean Sierra had a bet in front of him of an unspecified amount. Next to act was Maria Lampropulos and she moved all in over the top for a little more than 50,000. Sierra thought for a bit then called.

Sierra: {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Lampropulos: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

The board completed with the {4-Spades} securing the double up for Lampropulos with her two pair and she moved once again over the 100,000-chip mark.

Leo Fernandez Doubles Through Marcelo Bonanata; Nearly Stacks Him

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Leo Fernandez

With approximately 10,000 chips already in the middle on a flop of {10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}, the small blind checked, PokerStars Team Pro Leo Fernandez checked from the big blind, Hugo Zanotti bet 5,100 from middle position, and Marcelo Bonanata, who was next to act, called. The small blind folded and Fernandez check-raised to 15,000. Zanotti folded and after tanking for over two minutes, Bonanata called.

The turn brought the {10-Hearts} and Fernandez checked. Bonanata checked behind.

The {K-Spades} fell on the river and Fernandez checked. Bonanata bet 15,000 and Fernandez check-raised all-in, putting Bonanata to a decision for 77,400 which was almost his entire stack. He went into the tank for several minutes before the clock was called. Before tournament staff could start the countdown, Bonanata called. Fernandez flipped over {10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for tens full of threes which beat Bonanata's {8-Spades}{6-Spades}, so he took the pot to double up and leave his opponent with crumbs.

Korn Gets River Value

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Andres Korn earlier this week

With about 17,000 chips already in the middle and the completed board reading {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}, Cristian Fernandez was under the gun and had already committed 3,500 chips. Andres Korn was in the hijack and had raised to 18,500, sending Fernandez into the tank. He eventually called and Korn quickly tabled {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for a rivered queen-high straight. Fernandez mucked and Korn took the pot.

Korn is fresh off a victory in a side event here at the PokerStars Festival Uruguay in which he banked a $15,260 payday. It has been a banner year for the Argentinian grinder; he won his first World Series of Poker bracelet this past summer in the $5,000 buy-in six-max no-limit hold'em event, earning $618,285 for his efforts. The only other bracelet winner to enter this event, Ivan Luca, was recently eliminated.

With a substantial pot of about 55,000 chips already in the middle on a completed board reading {Q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Spades}, Christopher Franco shoved from the small blind for 48,500 into his lone opponent, Martin Crosa who was under the gun. Crosa went into the tank for nearly five minutes. He began Day 2 play with the chip lead and had about 121,000 chips behind. Ultimately, he folded and Franco took the pot to put his stack over the 100,000-chip mark.

The field in the $3,300 High Roller at the inaugural PokerStars Festival Uruguay saw a total of 44 entries take their seats for Day 1 play, all with their eyes on the top prize and trophy to be awarded to the eventual winner. When the 34 remaining players bagged chips for the evening after six levels, Uruguayan player Martin Crosa had emerged as the chip leader (171,700). The only other player to more than triple their 50,000 starting chips was Argentinian Hugo Spangenberg, who bagged 159,500 at the conclusion of Day 1. Uruguay's Francisco Garcia (102,100) and South Africa's Jesse Rosen (101,700) are the only other players who will take six-figure stacks out of the bag when Day 2 begins at noon local time. They are joined by some highly-accomplished players, including PokerStars Team Pro Leo Fernandez (78,900) and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Andres Korn (64,000).

Day 2 will start at level 7 with 300/600 blinds and a 100-chip ante. Late registration and re-entry will remain open until the start of level 9, which will be at approximately 2:20 p.m. There will be a 20-minute break every two levels and an 80-minute dinner break after level 12. Play will end for the day when the final table has been reached or at the discretion of tournament staff.
