Lisawad and Neilson Battle, Troyanovskiy Gives Poker Lessons

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Daniel Neilson
Daniel Neilson

We caught the action on the turn in a three-way hand between Vladimir Troyanovskiy, Pakinai Lisawad and Daniel Neilson with a sizable pot brewing and the board reading {2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts} just as the action has been checked over to Neilson on the button, who decided to bet out for 8,000.

Troyanovskiy tanked but folded and action was on Lisawad who chewed over the decision before throwing in the call to take play heads up to the {4-Diamonds} river.

Lisawad checked it over to Neilson who ran the shot clock down to 3-seconds before tossing in a chunky bet of 35,000.

Lisawad tanked hard, burning through the first of his time bank chips before eventually folding.

“That was a bluff,” said Troyanovskiy.

“It felt bluffy, but I wasn’t sure,” said Lisawad, “and how come you don’t call if you think it’s a bluff?” he quizzed.

“If you fold on the flop I check raise,” retorted the Russian.

“Well I folded a queen there,” said Lisawad who was left with 26,400 after the hand.

This found it’s way into the middle the very next hand when Lisawad and Neilson tangled in another pot and became involved in a pre-flop raising war.

Both players had ace-king, Lisawad with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and Neilson with {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} but with neither player even coming close to making a flush this resulted in an unexciting chop.

No Walk in the Park for O'Dwyer

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Hand 1

On the tail end of a big pot between Steve O'Dwyer in the small blind and Sosia Jiang from under the gun, O'Dwyer bet 26,000 and Jiang let the time run down, then used a time bank chip to get another 30 seconds. Ultimately, Jiang called and O'Dwyer turned over {A-Spades}{7-Clubs} for a bluff, which Jiang had beat with the {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}.

Hand 2

Timothy Adams raised to 2,500 and Ben Lai called in the small blind. The {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop was checked through and Lai check-called a bet worth 4,500 on the {J-Diamonds} turn. On the {3-Clubs} river, the two of them checked and Lai's {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} won the pot.

Hand 3

O'Dwyer raised to 2,600 in the cutoff and Lai flat-called on the button. Oliver Price also called and the flop fell {K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. It checked to O'Dwyer, who continued for 4,500 and just Lai tossed in the chips for the call. The {9-Diamonds} turn saw a second barrel worth 8,500 by the 2017 PokerStars Championship Macau Super High Roller champ and Lai folded.

Adams and Loeser Re-enter, Alner Arrives Late and Doubles Early

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Canada’s Timothy Adams and Germany’s Manig Loeser have both chosen to re-enter and while the former is still close to the 50k starting stack Loeser has been busy and has run his second bullet up to the giddy heights of 120,000.

Another player whose tournament is headed in the right direction is the UK’s Tom Alner who is a recent late arrival. The Brit was recently seated at (now former) chip leader Yang Wang’s table and has just earned himself a double up at Wang’s expense.

Action folded around to Alner on the button and he made it 2,000 to go with Wang the only caller in the big blind. The flop was a rather arid {9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Wang chose to lead into the raiser with a bet of 2,300.

Alner thought it over for 15-seconds or so and then re-raised to 6,700 in total and it was Wang’s turn to think, though not for long and he threw in the extras.

Wang checked the {k-Clubs} turn over to Alner, who thought for a bit before making it 11,000 to go, only to see Wang reach for raising chips and the Chinese player check-raised to 22,000.

This sent Alner into the tank and he burned through the first of his timebank chips before moving all-in and Wang called quickly.

Tom Alner: {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Yang Wang: {j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Alner was the at risk player but had just paired his king and would just need to fade Wang’s gutshot straight draw and did so when the river came down {6-Clubs} to give him the double. Alner climbed to 100,800 and Wang dropped some to 124,000.

Lynskey and Haxton Gone for Good

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The latest batch of casualties also included Isaac Haxton and Alexander Lynskey, and since both were on their second bullet, we won't see them in the tournament anymore. Other notables that ran out of chips include Fabian Quoss, Philipp Gruissem, Michael Egan and Kiryl Radzivonau.

Attenborough Chips up Further

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

On a turn reading {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, Felipe Ramos bet 2,000 out of the blinds and Dejan Boskovic Sr raised to 6,500 from late position, which Ramos called. The {5-Diamonds} appeared on the river and Ramos' bet worth 10,000 forced a fold from the Australian.

A few tables over Adrian Attenborough led a flop of {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs} out of the big blind for 3,200 and Xiaoling Li, who is sporting a black cap with the slogan "catch me", called from early position. Attenborough then fired another 12,000 on the {3-Spades} turn. Li gave it some thought but ultimately ended up tossing her cards into the muck.

Last but not least, Aaron Lim took on Sofia Lovgren and check-raised a heads-up flop of {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades} out of the big blind from 2,500 to 6,000. Lovgren called on the button and the {5-Spades} appeared on the turn. Lim made it 9,000 to go and Lovgren folded.

"Welcome to Macau"

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

A raise to 2,600 was in front of Dario Sammartino in the cutoff and Canlin Chen called out of the small blind. Timothy Adams squeezed to 11,000 and Yu Liang called from early position, while Sammartino folded. Chen also called and they went three ways to the flop of {J-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}.

Chen checked and Adams bet 12,000, which got Liang out of the way. Chen eventually check-raised to 32,000 and Adams announced all in. Chen asked the dealer to pull in his raise and then tell the difference on how much more he has to pay. This happened to be 19,500 on top and Chen then called.

Timothy Adams: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Canlin Chen: {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The {9-Clubs} turn and {7-Diamonds} river bricked off and John Juanda let out a "welcome to Macau" before Adams grabbed his belongings and headed to the rail. Chen celebrated briefly and then stacked his chips.

Lovgren Wins From Sun

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

While we did not get all of the pre-flop betting in the following hand we did arrive in time to see Sofia Lovgren re-raise to 6,500 from the big blind in a hand against two other opponents – Sheng Sun (cutoff) and Ioannis Konstas (button).

Both players called and action went three-way to the {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop. There was no more betting until the river, with the flop and the {8-Hearts} turn checked by all.

The {5-Clubs} river saw Lovgren reach for chips and she led for 7,500. Sun quickly called, Konstas folded and Lovgren turned over {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds} which was enough to get it done as Sun mucked.

Grospellier finds a Double

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier

Nick Petrangelo called a raise by Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and then the duo then got into a raising war on a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Ultimately, Grospellier ended up as the player at risk and turned over {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} while Petrangelo looked him up with {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

While the turn was a blank, the {Q-Diamonds} on the river certainly wasn't, giving Grospellier the better hand and an above-starting stack once again.
