Big Huni in Front of Big Field After Day 1 in $25,000 8-Handed

Nível 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Chris Hunichen

The biggest-field high roller so far of the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in The Bahamas wrapped up early this morning with $25,000 8-Handed that saw 52 players remaining out of a field of 78. That's a change of pace from other recent high-stakes offerings here at Baha Mar Resort that have attracted anywhere from eight to a few dozen entries.

Leading the way after 10 levels of play on Day 1 is Brian Kim with 631,000, followed closely by Chris Hunichen with 565,000 and Timothy Adams with 479,000. Those are hardly the only notable names in the event as Michael Addamo, Stephen Chidwick, Adrian Mateos, Yuri Dzivielevski, Mike Watson and $100,000 Super High Roller champion Isaac Haxton also found bags.

Speaking of champions finding bags, Jonathan Jaffe ended with a stack of 289,000 just hours after taking down the $50,000 8-Handed event. The second-place finisher in that event, Orpen Kisacikoglu, busted in just one hand but made the most of a second bullet and will enter Day 2 with 316,000.

The tournament started with just three tables but that gradually multiplied to six and beyond as more players put up the $25,000 stake. Many were eliminated on their first entry but were quick to get back in the mix, including Fedor Holz, Justin Bonomo, Dylan Destefano and PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton.

The field included all the usual suspects, but also a few newcomers like Rodrigo Seiji, Arthur Conan, Weiran Pu and Rodrigo Selouan.

The second and final day of the event will commence at 2 p.m. local time with the Level 11 blinds being 2,000/4,000/4,000. Late registration remains open until the completion of Level 12, so expect the field to grow during that time.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on-site tomorrow to provide updates on the latest high-roller ahead of the next winner being crowned.

"There's No Folding Range!": Addamo Floats Beresford

Nível 9 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Michael Addamo
Michael Addamo

In a three-way pot on a board of {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}, Dimitar Danchev checked in the big blind and Conor Beresford checked from the hijack before Michael Addamo bet 5,500 on the button. Danchev folded and Beresford check-raised to 14,500. Addamo called.

Beresford bet 8,000 on the {q-Diamonds} turn and Addamo sat perfectly still before raising to 24,000. Beresford folded to hang onto his remaining 33,500.

"I don't know why I tried against this guy. There's no folding range!" lamented Beresford. "But I'll keep f***ing fighting."

Holz Looks Up a Bluff to Double Through Worre

Nível 8 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Fedor Holz was at risk of busting his second bullet when he bet 21,500 on the river on a board of {3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and his heads-up opponent, Eric Worre, raised to put Holz all in for his final 100,000 or so.

Holz went deep into the tank and used several time banks before landing on a call. It was the right move as Worre showed a bluff with {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} before Holz tabled the winner with {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

Holz Out

Nível 7 : Blinds 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

In the final hand before break, Fedor Holz lost all but a single 500 chip when he bet big on the river on a board of {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and was called by Alberto Meran. Holz showed {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, which was no good against the {q-Spades}{8-Spades} of Meran.

Upon returning from break, Holz got his final chip in against the same opponent.

Fedor Holz: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Alberto Meran: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Holz had a big hand given the situation but couldn't get there as the board ran out {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts} to mark his elimination.

"That's unreal!" Holz said after failing to improve.

Ben Heath opened to 3,000 on the button and Brian Kim three-bet to 13,000 in the small blind. Aleksejs Ponakovs then cold four-bet to 29,000 in the big blind to bring a fold from Heath. Kim then five-bet jammed with a starting stack and Ponakovs snap-called with slightly less

Aleksejs Ponakovs: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Brian Kim: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Ponakovs was pipped and couldn't get ahead as the board ran out {8-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts} to mark the Latvian's early elimination.

"You might be close to chip leader at this point!" laughed Brek Schutten.

Another PCA High Roller Today With $25,000 8-Handed

Chips & Branding
Chips & Branding

Yet another high roller tournament is getting underway here in The Bahamas at the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) with $25,000 8-Handed, a two-day event that will kick off at 7 p.m. local time.

A few high rollers have already taken place at the Baha Mar Resort and have awarded big winners, including $100,000 PCA Super High Roller champion Isaac Haxton ($1,082,230) and $50,000 6-Handed winner David Yan ($485,690). More recently, Conor Beresford took down $50,000 7-Handed for $436,812 after late-regging the event toward the end of Day 1.

Additionally, Jonathan Jaffe won the $50,000 8-Handed earlier in the evening for $194,814 and said he plans to hop into this $25,000 event.

We will see if any of those other high-roller champs hop into the latest offering, where players will sit down with a starting stack of 150,000 and blinds at 500/1,000/1,000. They likely won't be joined by Artur Martirosian, Sylvain Loosli, Sergi Reixach or Nick Petrangelo, all of whom are still kicking in Day 3 of the $10,300 PCA Main Event.

Day 1 will play for 10 levels lasting 30 minutes in duration with a 20-minute break every three levels. Late registration will remain open until after Level 12 on Day 2, giving the high rollers plenty of time to get in the action.

Like other high roller events at PCA, players will receive four time bank cards upon entry and will receive more as the tournament plays out.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team is here on-site in Nassau and ready to bring you all the high-roller updates.
