Dinner Break

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

With a total of 274 entries and just 170 players remaining, registration is nearing a close. The players are now going on an 80-minute dinner break and registration will remain open until the cards are back in the air.

Heidt and Smith Hungry for Chips

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

On one table, the action was checked to Mitchell Heidt who made a bet 1,100 on a flop reading {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}. His opponent check-raised to 3,400 from the big blind, only to have Heidt three-bet to 11,100. His opponent tossed his cards away and Heidt took down the pot.

Next door, Ryan Smith was faced with a raise to 1,200 from middle position and call from the small blind. Smith re-raised to 4,600 out of the big blind and the initial raised shoved all in. The button quickly got out of the way and Smith called just as fast for his remaining 25,200 chips. He was in a dominating position with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} against his opponent's {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}.

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Smith's two pair with a king-kicker was good enough to earn him the double up. The two Saskatchewan, Canada boys are gaining some momentum heading into the dinner break.

Konnikova Makes a Move

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

The board read {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Maria Konnikova checked from under the gun. Her opponent, Alexander Haber, bet 7,000 from middle position into a pot of around 11,000. Konnikova check-raised all in for roughly 32,000 and Haber was sent into the tank.

After a couple of minutes, he eventually made the call and Konnikova turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for a flush draw. Haber showed {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} for two pair and would need to hold for a massive pot. The river brought the {4-Spades}, missing Konnikova, and her chips were pushed to the new chip leader, Haber.

Gill Can't Get Paid Off

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

After a raise to 1,000 from under the gun, there was a three-bet to 2,300 from early position. Harpreet Gill called from middle position, as did the initial raiser. The flop came {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and under-the-gun player checked. The player in early position continued for 2,500 and Gill made the call, while his other opponent folded.

The {3-Spades} landed on the turn and Gill was faced with another bet of 4,000. This time, Gill raised to 22,000, enough to put his opponent at risk should he make the call. He thought for a couple moments before electing to fold. Gill kindly showed his opponent the goods with {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

Cheong Loses Back-to-Back Pots

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Joseph Cheong raised to 1,000 from under the gun and was called by an opponent in early position. The flop came {j-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Cheong continued for 700. His opponent just called and the {8-Clubs} landed on the turn.

Cheong check-called a bet of 800 from his opponent and the {8-Spades} double-paired the board and brought a potential flush. Both players checked and Cheong stared down at his opponent's {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a full house before sending his cards to the muck.

In the next hand, the action folded around to the small blind who raised to 1,300. Cheong defended his big blind and the flop fell {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}. The small blind led out for 1,200 and Cheong stuck around to see the {3-Hearts} on the turn.

Both players checked and the {4-Spades} completed the board. The small blind fired another 3,800 which Cheong quickly called. His opponent rolled over {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for two pair and Cheong mucked his cards again.

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

On his second bullet of the day, Michael Malm lost nearly half of his stack before disaster struck. Alexander Ziskin limped in from under the gun along with another player in early position. There was a raise to 2,700 from middle position and Michael Malm shoved all in for 10,500 on the button. With the action back on Ziskin, he re-raised to 27,000, forcing the other two players out of the pot.

Malm turned over {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and was left drawing to two out as Ziskin tabled {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}. The board ran out {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Malm was sent to the rail for the second and final time.

Flopped Quads for Day

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Christopher Day has struggled out of the gate in his opening tournament of the 2018 PCA. He was sitting with just over 7,000 chips coming back from the second break of the day and pushed all in from middle position. He was called by the small blind and found himself in trouble holding {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} against his opponent's {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

However, The dealer spread the flop of {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Day flopped quads to take a commanding lead in the hand. The {2-Hearts} on the turn sealed the double up for Day as he works his way back to a starting stack.
