Schindler Leads Last 11 in the €101,000 Super High Roller After Day 1, Koon Advances With Big Stack

The 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona €101,000 Super High Roller not only surpassed it's guaranteed prize pool of €2,000,000, but more than doubled it thanks to 48 entries in total, generating a prize pool of €4,656,000. Only the top six will earn at least €240,000, while the winner walks home with the trophy and a payday of €1,750,000.

Best-positioned to claim victory is Jake Schindler with 13.26 million chips after dominating the feature table in the final two levels of the night, as he played a vital role to reduce the field to just 11 hopefuls. Schindler's full house with ace-seven against the ace-king suited of Alex Foxen brought the hopes of the rising star on the international poker circuit to an end. Right after, Seth Davies busted to Nick Petrangelo only for the latter to send his stack to Schindler when his full house with ace-king ended up second best to Schindler's quads eights.

Adrian Mateos

In the last two hands over on the outer table, Keith Tilston took care of Adrian Mateos (pictured abvove) and Patrik Antonius in back-to-back hands with two full houses in a row. Tilston bagged up 7.675 million, which is good enough for second place overall. Jean-Noel Thorel and team partypoker's Jason Koon were among the 15 players that fired a second bullet ande both advanced with 5.65 million and 5.215 million respectively.

Among those that were sent to the rail without anything to show for were such big names as €51,000 Super High Roller champion Sam Greenwood, Leon Tsoukernik, Steve O'Dwyer, Daniel Dvoress, Timothy Adams, and team partypoker's Isaac Haxton and Fedor Holz, to name just a few of the high stakes regulars.

There is still plenty of room for moves for all finalists, only Koray Aldemir will be under immediate pressure with his 610,000, as the action recommences at blinds of 35,000/70,000 and a button ante of 70,000. The two tables will switch the feature table spotlight and cards are expected to get back in the air at 12 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 11th, 2018.

The tournament is scheduled to play down to a winner and the highlight of the festival at the Casino Barcelona kicks off with the first two starting days of the €10,300 Main Event. Day 1A starts at 12 p.m. local time and Day 1B follows as of 5 p.m. local time, there are four starting days in total for the tournament that features a guaranteed prize pool of €10,000,000.

Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

In the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona €101,000 Super High Roller, team partypoker's Isaac Haxton took a rough beat when he got it in with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} against the {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} of Steffen Sontheimer, as the board came {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} to give Sontheimer a winning set. After thatt, Sam Greenwood busted on his second bullet and Daniel Dvoress as well as Zach Clarke rounded up the casualties before the two table redraw.

Until then, the payouts were also officially confirmed. Two players will be crowned millionaires in the event with the min-cash worth more than two times the buy-in. Out of the 48 entries, there were 15 re-entries to make for 33 unique entries, creating a total prize pool of €4,656,000.

In the €1,100 Open Event, the field has been cut down to 10 hopefuls only and Joey Weissman has a commanding lead with 531 million. "It's been my day, that's for sure. Winning all ins, busting guys left and right. Making two pair a lot, sets, straights, flushes, all of the deck!" the Las Vegas based poker player said. He is in prime position to take down the €250,000 top-prize.

The average is at 171.6 million, and other notables include Ludovic Geilich (165 million), Rasmus Vogt (165 million), Christophe de Meulder (151.5 million), Mauricio Salazar Sanchez (99.5 million) and Micky Blasi (82 million). The tournament is currently on dinner break and the next blinds will be 2.5 million / 5.0 million.

Three Tables Remain in the €101,000 Super High Roller; Kotoviezy Finishes 15th in Open Event

Dayane Kotoviezy

The chips were flying in the €101,000 Super High Roller in level eight, as the late registration was extended until the end of level nine, and several short stacks were trying to run it up or buy back in with 1,000,000 in chips. Leon Tsoukernik busted for a second time and Daniel Dvoress had his kings cracked by the pocket tens of Seth Davies, the latter flopped a set and the chips went in after the turn of a queen high board.

The partypoker representatives were involved into the action as well. Jason Koon check-raised a flop of {K-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Spades} flop out of the big blind and fired pot size for 600,000 on the {7-Hearts} turn, Jan Eric Schwippert called on the button. Koon jammed on the {5-Diamonds} river and Schwippert could not find the fold with aces, then mucked when Koon flipped over {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} for trips fives. Right after, Isaac Haxton ran out of chips with {K-Spades}{J-Spades} against the {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} of Seth Davies in the big blind and re-entered.

Sean Winter was eliminated as well and Timothy Adams followed him to the rail, but he opted to fire the second entry. The €51,000 Super High Roller third-place finisher Patrik Antonius joined the action on the first bullet. Sam Greenwood, who took a break after winning the very same event earlier today, failed in his first attempt towards the end of level nine. He took a flip with {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and Koon looked him up with {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}, the board came {K-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and the set on the turn vaulted Koon to 6.6 million on his second bullet.

Jason Koon

Two other side events and two satellites are currently ongoing. The €2,700 Warm Up, in which partypoker team pro Kristen Bicknell bubbled, is on dinner break with 67/749 players remaining and the €1,100 Open Event is down to 14 hopefuls. Marius Pertea and partypoker team online's Dayane Kotoviezy were part of a double elimination when both held ace-king, Portugal's Alexandre Mendes held up with pocket jacks. Mendes is among the chip leaders, other notables include short stack Ludovic Geilich, Christophe de Meulder, Micky Blasi, Joey Weissman and Jeremy Palvini.

Fearless Bicknell Aiming for More Success

Kristen Bicknell
Kristen Bicknell

Kristen Bicknell has two World Series of Poker bracelets to her name: The Ladies Event in 2013 and $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Bounty (Event #46) in 2016. Originally from St. Catharines, the 31-year-old partypoker sponsored pro now lives in Toronto and should definitely be considered as a shark in a big ocean when it comes to poker. More than $1.7 million in cashes on the live circuit speak for itself and Bicknell also has millions over millions of hands on the virtual felt to her name as well. The last few months especially have been quite impressive with one deep run after another.

Four cashes at the 2017 WSOPE, a victory in a $5,300 Side Event at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December 2017 and five cashes at the 2018 Aussie Millions were accompanied by a 10th place in the partypoker sponsored Latin American Poker Championship in Punta del Este for $9,000. But the best was yet to come.

For the first time Bicknell traveled to Macau along with her boyfriend and rising American poker star Alex Foxen, and both made the headlines. The Canadian earned her second biggest score (HK$2,192,000 ~ $279,549) and another final table appearance just one week later. Remarkably, both Bicknell and Foxen won their High Roller events in Macau with ace-six, proving the idiom “Lucky at cards, unlucky in love” wrong.

Kristen Bicknell and Alex Foxen Interview

"We just came off final tabling the 25K High Roller final table together, and on our last poker trip to Macau in the first event, while I was winning the event, he was chip leader in the next event and ended up winning the Super High Roller there. Since we started dating, we have a lot of run good. I know that he is really good and really supportive of me and I feel that he is a very positive influence on my game, and mentally. We have both taken things of each other's games and that helped each other, being happy, having someone to travel with and being there. Even while I am playing the tournament, we are writing all the time and it feels like we are playing together."

As mentioned by the Canadian, the record-breaking partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Barcelona festival with €23,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools kicked off nicely for both as well. In the first of two €25,500 Super High Rollers, which attracted a field of 88 entries, Bicknell and Foxen both reached the final table and cashed for €60,000 and €90,000 respectively.

Especially confidence can play a major role at poker and the awareness of Bicknell has increased thanks to the relationship. "One thing I have taken from Alex is the strongest part of his game, and that is confidence, his fearlessness. In poker it is easy to feel intimidated, that you are not the best, especially when sitting down with players that are better with solvers. But it's important to realize that's just one part of the game and I have my strengths, too. Learning to be confident with what you have and understanding that everyone has weaknesses, everyone has strengths. When you feel confident in your game, and in your decision making, that's when you play your best poker."

Six Levels Done in the €101,000 Super High Roller in Barcelona

Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

The 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona €101,000 Super High Roller has reached the second break. Stephen Chidwick still appears to be near the top of the counts while Sam Greenwood is expected to join soon, having taken down the €51,000 Super High Roller some 90 minutes ago.

Fedor Holz and Alex Foxen have joined the competition to boost the field to 37 entries in total, of which 26 remain. Leon Tsoukernik failed with a queen-high bluff against the ace-nine suited of Seth Davies, who flopped top pair and the flush draw before calling the river shove.

"Now we are both in for two bullets," Team partypoker's Jason Koon on the same table joked and indeed Tsoukernik returned for his second try. While Tsoukernik is currently just above the starting stack with 1.4 million, he sent Byron Kaverman to the rail and will be on the upcoming feature table at the start of level seven.

On his table, Bryn Kenney won a vital pot just before everyone headed into a 15-minute break. In a hand against Mikita Badziakouski, the latter bet the {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts} turn for 75,000 out of the big blind and Kenney called. On the {Q-Clubs} river, Badziakouski made it 400,000 to go and that represented a big portion of Kenney's remaining stack. With five seconds left on his shot clock he called and Badziakouski tabled {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a busted draw, Kenney had {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for top pair.

Badziakouski dropped to around 1.8 million while Kenney now has 1.475 million. The action will recommence with blinds of 10,000/25,000 and a button ante of 25,000 when they return, and the feature table can be followed on the partypokerTV Twitch channel. Two levels remain for players to join the action.

With up to 99 poker tables in the room, the chips are not splashing as loudly right now. The 50 seat mega satellite for Day 1A of the €10,300 Main Event has seen a field of 445 entries cut down to 187 and there were 105 add-ons. In the €2,700 Warm Up the money bubble is getting very close as the top 87 spots get at least €4,500, only 92 hopefuls remain.

And the €1,100 Open Event has seen it's massive field of 1,716 entries cut down to the last three tables. Among the final 24 are still quite a few big names in Ludovic Geilich, Christophe de Meulder, Joey Weissman, Micky Blasi, Marius Pertea and Slaven Popov, along with partypoker Team online's Dayane Kotoviezy.

Up to More Than 30 Entries in Level Three

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

It has been a nightmare for David Peters, as he busted twice in the first three levels to run out of chances for damage control in the event. It was Stephen Chidwick that got him both times and the Brit has built his stack up to more than 4.9 million already.

Jason Koon was the first casualty of the day and bought back in, as did Jean-Noel Thorel. Orpen Kisacikoglu and Stefan Schillhabel also ran out of chips, the latter falling into the trap of Leon Tsoukernik. Koon's raise from under the gun was just called by Tsoukernik on the button and Schillhabel came along out of the small blind. Schillhabel flopped the nut flush draw with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} but couldn't crack the {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} of Tsoukernik, who jumped to 1.8 million.

Daniel Dvoress avoided the trip to the cashier for the single re-entry in this event after he got it in with the dominated {10-Hearts}{9-Spades} on a flop of {9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Justin Bonomo check-raised out of the big blind and called his jam with {Q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, but running hearts improved Dvoress to a flush.

As usual, the atmosphere can be quite tense in these events. Along with the friendly banter from time to time, everyone get's super serious as soon as they get actively involved in a hand. With the late registration open until the end of level eight, the tournament is on track to double it's initial guarantee of €2,000,000. So far there are 31 entries with 25 players remaining.

The Stakes are Rising With the €101,000 Super High Roller

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

The most expensive tournament of the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Grand Final awaits with Day 1 of the €101,000 Super High Roller. While scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. local time, it wouldn't be unusual for tournaments of that buy-in range to get underway on a delay.

All previous Super High Rollers of the festival were host to a plethora of poker's biggest names, and this tournament shapes up to attract the very best in order to determine yet another poker millionaire on the partypoker LIVE tour.

To list all of the usual suspects with their respective achievements would take quite some time, but a quick glance on the all-time money list will reveal the participants without scrolling down too far. Erik Seidel tops them all with more than $33 million in cashes and he already added some to that after a third-place finish in the initial €25,500 Super High Roller for €300,000.

Erik Seidel

Another two names that comes to mind as running pretty hot in the previous 12 months would be Justin Bonomo and Adrian Mateos. Bonomo destroyed the competition during the US Poker Open and added the Super High Roller Bowl China title to his poker resume for more than $4.8 million. Bonomo is up to more than $25 million in cashes on the live circuit.

Last but not least, Spanish wonderkid Adrian Mateos should not be underestimated on home soil. Three WSOP bracelets, an EPT title and several High Roller titles are just a few of the feats of Mateos. In the two €25,500 Super High Roller events of the festival at Casino Barcelona, the Spaniard finished 4th each and will be roaring for more.

Adrian Mateos

At least 12 levels of 40 minutes each will be played on Day 1, but that may increase depending on the number of entries. The tournament comes with a guaranteed prize pool of €2,000,000 but there is little doubt that this number will be eclipsed.
