Day 2 Ends with Oleksii Khoroshenin Leading the Remaining 23 Players

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Oleksii Khoroshenin
Oleksii Khoroshenin

A long and grueling Day 2 saw 141 players looking to play down to a final table, but after 10 levels of play the action came to an end with 23 remaining. Leading the way with 2,015,000 in chips was Ukraine’s Oleksii Khoroshenin. Close behind were Ole Schemion, Alexander Ivarsson, Andrey Zaichenko, and Anton Astapau. Also in contention were Dan Shak, Jonathan Little, Marvin Rettenmaier, and Ari Engel.

With 11 reentries and two new playerss before the start of Day 2, the total number of entries was capped off at 309 (233 unique players and 76 reentries), which set a new record once again here in Prague. That created a prize pool of €3,028,000 that was to be distributed to the top 39 players, with an impressive €606,400 put aside for the eventual winner.

Action recommenced in Level 11 (1,000/2,000/300) and the players gradually hit the rail. Some of those included Olivier Busquet, Mike Watson, Brian Roberts, Mustapha Kanit, Timothy Adams, Mike Mcdonald, David Vamplew, and Team PokerStars Pros Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Eugene Katchalov.

When the field was down to 40 players remaining, the money bubble was in effect and it would take two hours for it to eventually burst. The money bubble wasn’t without its moments, either. From Ioannis Apostolidis moving all in twice and warning his opponents to “Not f*** up” (before tabling pocket aces twice when they did fold), to Nicholas Rampone dwindling down to below a small blind and surviving.

In the end, though, it would be Mateusz Moolhuizen who would receive the unwanted title of “bubble boy.” In a massive hand against Schemion, the two made it to the river before Moolhuizen checked his option on the {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades} board. Schemion then moved all in for just short of a million in chips putting Moolhuizen to the ultimate decision. Over five minutes passed before Moolhuizen made the call, only to muck his {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} face up and storm out the room when Schemion rolled over the {5-Spades}{8-Clubs} for the straight.

There was one hour to go after the bubble burst and the money eliminations began to pile up as 16 players would all receive something for their effort. Among those to bust were Sylvain Loosli, Nicolas Chouity, Maxim Lykov, and defending EPT Prague High Roller champion Ivan Shoshnikov.

The third and final day will begin at 12 p.m. local time on Wednesday, and the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to capture the all the play from start to finish. Be sure to tune in then for the exciting conclusion to this event, but also be sure to check out the coverage of the EPT Prague Main Event that will crown a champion tomorrow as well.

Ankush Mandavia
Ankush Mandavia

Oleksii Khoroshenin raised from the cut off and watched as the action folded to Ankush Mandavia in the big blind. He moved all in for a little more and Khoroshenin made the call.

Khoroshenin: {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Mandavia: {q-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{k-Spades}{7-Hearts} to see Mandavia lead all the way to the turn before a river heart completed Khoroshenin’s flush sending him to the rail. Oleksii Khoroshenin won a sizable pot from Dan Shak as well and now has about 1.7 million.

Mateusz Moolhuizen Bubbles EPT11 Prague High Roller!

Nível 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Mateusz Moolhuizen
Mateusz Moolhuizen

The action started with Ole Schemion raising to 36,000 from middle position. Mateusz Moolhuizen made the call from the small blind and both players watched the flop come down {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

Both players checked before the {2-Hearts} dropped on the turn. Moolhuizen checked and Schemion led out for 40,000.The bet was called before the dealer dropped the {4-Spades} on the river.

Moolhuizen checked once more only to have Schemion move all in for just short of one million in chips just a moment later. Moolhuizen went into the tank for over five minutes, contemplating his final decision.

“You got it?” he asked, after eventually making the call.

Schemion nodded his head as the cards were kept down because of on an all in on the other table.

With the go ahead, the players tabled their cards. Schemion showed his {5-Spades}{8-Clubs} for the straight and Moolhuizen rolled over his {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} before storming out of the tournament area.

Nível 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

Oleksii Khoroshenin raised to 25,000 from the cut off as the action folded around to Oliver Price in the small blind. He tanked for several minutes finally releasing his hand. Martin Kabrhel was in the big blind and moved all in for 185,000 in chips. Khoroshenin received a count from the dealer and made the call shortly after.

Khoroshenin: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Kabrhel: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

Kabrhel was in great shape to double up but was out flopped when the dealer spread out the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Kabrhel would then watch as he missed all his straight and flush outs to be eliminated from the tournament.

The remaining 40 players are now on the money bubble and are playing hand-for-hand.

The Rettenmaier Roller Coaster

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Marvin Rettenmaier
Marvin Rettenmaier

Marvin Rettenmaier opened to 16,000 under the gun and called Erwann Pecheux' button shove for 122,000 total. Pecheux had {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and Rettenmaier had to do with just {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. The {2-Clubs}{A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} board didn't do anything for Rettenmaier and he dropped down to 35,000.

The next hand it was Nicholas Rampone who raised from the button for 88,000 with just 20,000 behind. Rettenmaier checked his first card in the big blind and called. Rampone showed {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Rettenmaier said he had a king. He then squeezed his other card and tabled {K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. The board came {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Rettenmaier doubled.

The next hand Rettenmaier again would be involved. Erwann Pecheux opened for 16,000 from the hijack and Ariel Mantel on the button shoved all in for 79,000 total. Marvin Rettenmaier in the big blind shoved over the top for 83,000 and Pecheux folded after some thinking. Rettenmaier had again pocket nines ({9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}) and was up against {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Mantel wouldn't hit with a board of {2-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Mantel hit the rail.

Michel Dattani raised to 16,000 from middle position and was called by Georgios Karakousis in the cut off. Mike Watson then moved all in for 92,000 which saw Dattani fold his hand. Karakousis then made the call moments later and both players revealed their cards.

Karakousis: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Watson: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}

Karakousis was on a mini heater after recently doubling up, and was able to out flop Watson when the board ran out {5-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Spades}{6-Spades} to see him win with a pair of queens.

That Annoying Schemion Guy

Nível 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Ole Schemion
Ole Schemion

You remember when you just started out playing poker? The times where there was always that one guy at the table who just always showed you a bluff when you folded and always showed you the nuts when you called? That guy that was just ahead of you one little step, that annoying guy!

Well, in this event full of highly skilled poker players, Ole Schemion is exactly that guy.

Just now we saw Amir Mozaffarian check from the small blind on a {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} board. Ole Schemion in the big blind, hiding behind a 30-high wall full of 5,000 and 1,000 chips, had 77,500 in front of him and Mozaffarian with a total stack of 175,000 was thinking about it. He thought for quite a bit before eventually releasing his hand into the muck.

Schemion sighed, just like he did many times before, joking like he was happy his opponent folded. Just like that guy back when we started playing always used to do.

Schemion smiled and said "One time" before rolling over {7-Spades}{9-Clubs}for absolutely nothing.

Yaroshevskyy Resurrects to Bust O'Dwyer

Nível 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Earlier today we received Igor Yaroshevskyy's bust out slip and so assumed he was eliminated. Things weren't going to well for him and it only made sense the start of day chip leader had lost the bit of chips he had left as well.

Well, it turns out he didn't. That, or he made one more re entry which isn't allowed on Day 2. Just now we spotted him three betting Steve O'Dwyer's raise to 57,000. O'Dwyer made the call with about 100,000 behind and checked to his neighbor on {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Yaroshevskyy moved all in for 130,000 and O'Dwyer tanked for a long time.

Eventually he called with his {A-Spades}{3-Spades} and Yaroshevskyy turned over {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. O'Dwyer was ahead but would be drawing dead by the time the {K-Diamonds} hit the turn. The {2-Spades} was there just for good measures and O'Dwyer left the tournament room.

Huge Cooler Leaves Kabrhel with 6 big Blinds

Nível 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

Things already weren't going to well for Martin Kabrhel, and it all turned really sour minutes ago.

On a flop of {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts} he got all of the chips in against Frenchman Patrick Uzan for a 355,000 pot. Kabrhel had a monster with {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} but entirely in line with how things were going lately, he had just one direct out with that hand as Uzan tabled {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}.

No runner runner split pot and no one-outer with the {A-Clubs} on the turn and {4-Diamonds} on the river and Kabrhel handed over even more chips, leaving himself just six big blinds.
