Sorel Mizzi Leads Final Seven in Super High Roller

Nível 18 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Sorel Mizzi leads into the final day
Sorel Mizzi leads into the final day

On Wednesday, Day 2 of the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 Super High Roller continued from the luxurious Atlantis Paradise Island. A grand total of 44 players returned to the felt, five of whom were either new entries or reentries for the second day. By the day's end, however, just seven players remained, and leading the final table was Sorel Mizzi with a stack of 4.8 million.

This year's Super High Roller became a record-setting event with a total of 66 entries. Fifty of these were unique entries, allowing for a total prize pool of $6.402 million. This meant that the top nine players were guaranteed money with a min-cash earning $185,660. Each of the remaining players is vying for the top prize of nearly $1.9 million.

The day began with poker's elite returning to the felt with the hopes of becoming the next Super High Roller champion. Those hopes were dashed early for the likes of Cary Katz, Daniel Colman, Erik Seidel, Ole Schemion, Dani Stern, Olivier Busquet, Pratyush Buddiga, and Bill Perkins. The remaining representatives of Team PokerStars Pro also went bust before the money was reached with Daniel Negreanu, Isaac Haxton, and Jason Mercier all hitting the rail.

As play wound down for the evening and the final two tables were reached, Mizzi ascended above the competition and seized the chip lead. A key double through Jason Koon gave Mizzi the ammunition he needed to begin his impressive run. Koon later fell at Mizzi's hands when the former's pocket tens were unable to improve against Mizzi's pocket aces during a preflop all-in confrontation. Other players to fall close to the money include Zach Hyman, Talal Shakerchi, Carlos Chadha, Mike McDonald, and Fedor Holz.

Play reached the money bubble with the final 10 competitors playing at two five-handed tables. The bubble was burst during a confrontation on the feature table between Mizzi and David Peters. With blinds at 20,000/40,000/5,000, action folded to Peters' small blind and he cut out a raise to 110,000. Mizzi announced a three-bet all in and Peters called for his tournament life of roughly 890,000. Mizzi showed the {Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and needed to improve against Peters' {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} in order to score the elimination. Unfortunately for Peters, a queen came on both the flop and the turn to seal his fate as the "bubble boy," and each remaining player in the field was guaranteed a nice cash for their efforts.

Play continued at the unofficial final table of nine with Jake Schindler being the next to go. Schindler was eliminated at the hands of Roger Sippl, and his exit meant that the official final table was set. Despite the official final table being reached, the players continued to play until the end of the level. During this time, one more elimination occurred. In the end it was the 2013 PCA Super High Roller champion, Scott Seiver, to fall in eighth place. Seiver could not improve against Steve O'Dwyer during a preflop all-in clash and was forced to settle for a $243,280 payday.

Play will conclude on Thursday when the final seven will return to play to a champion. Play begins at 1 p.m. local time and will be broadcast cards up on EPT Live with a one-hour delay. PokerNews will be reporting live off of the stream, so be sure to tune in at 2 p.m. for all of the latest as this prestigious event reaches its exciting finish.

One For Greenwood

Nível 18 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

On a flop of {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs}, Christoph Vogelsang led out for 110,000 from the small blind. Sam Greenwood called from the big blind and action fell to Andrew Robl in the cutoff. He thought for quite some time before kicking his cards into the muck.

The {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Vogelsang slowed with a check. Greenwood checked it back and the {3-Spades} finished off the board. Two more checks led to a showdown and Greenwood showed a winning {J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of fives. Greenwood pulled the pot and now has about 960,000 to his name.
