Ilkin Garibli Wins PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller ($1,105,040)

Nível 35 : 250,000/500,000, 50,000 ante
Ilkin Garibli - PCA 2015 High Roller Champion
Ilkin Garibli - PCA 2015 High Roller Champion

That's all she wrote from the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure! After a grueling three days of competition among poker's elite, it was Ilkin Garibli who was able to rise to the top and earn the trophy, the SLYDE watch, and $1,105,040 in first-place prize money.

Garibli found himself heads up with Joe Kuether and the two made a heads up deal that earned the latter $1,050,000 in winnings. From there, the two played heads up in a marathon 2.5 hour heads up match for the watch and the trophy.

This was a unique experience for Garibli, not only because he won over one million dollars in just three days, but also because it was his first live tournament cash ever. Garibli, who hails from Azerbaijan, is not a tournament circuit regular, but rather a cash game player. He was convinced to participate in the PCA festival by his friends and it turned out to be arguably one of the best decisions that he ever made.

The day began with 11 players returning to the felt, each vying to claim the highest possible portion of this record-setting prize pool. It was apparent that the pressure levels were high, as no player would relent their stack for the first two hours of play. In the end, it was Bryn Kenney who was the first person to hit the rail. Kenney could not win a preflop race against Kuether and he was eliminated from play in 11th place. Following Kenney out the door and missing the official final table were Dominik Nitsche in tenth and Lee Markholt in ninth.

Dan Hemiller had a rocky start to his day, losing a significant chunk of his one sizable stack before the final table was reached. Shortly thereafter, Heimiller became the first victim of the final table, falling at the hands of Faraz Jaka. Despite scoring this elimination, Jaka was the next player to make his way to the rail. Jaka was crippled during a preflop all in confrontation with Jean-Pascal Savard, leaving the former with just three big blinds. Despite an immediate triple up, Jaka was eliminated the following hand with Savard finishing off the job.

Six-handed play lasted quite some time with the next elimination failing to occur until after the dinner break. On his final hand, Nick Petrangelo open-shipped from the hijack with {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} only to run into Kuether's {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} in the small blind. Petrangelo failed to improve and he was forced to settle for a $301,500 payday. From this point on, Garibli remained at the top of the chip counts while the rest of the players exchanged chips in some interesting confrontations where the player holding the worse hand seemed to consistently come from behind and win. Unfortunately for 2013 PCA Super High Roller champion and Day 1 chip leader Scott Seiver, one of those occurrences led to his demise. On a flop of {3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, Seiver flopped middle set with {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} against Garibli. Seiver check-raised all in on the flop and Garibli called, tabling {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} in the process. Seiver looked primed to score a key double up here, but a turn and river of {A-Diamonds} and the {K-Diamonds} gave Garibli a higher diamond flush to eliminate Seiver in fifth place for $398,340.

Savard was the next player to go when he was unable to improve during a preflop all in against Oleksii Khoroshenin. Savard's fourth place finish was worth $508,080, netting him more than eight times his previous lifetime live tournament winnings. From there it was Khoroshenin who was the next to go, losing his final hand after a preflop all in with Kuether. Despite having Kuether dominated before the flop with a bigger ace, Kuether made a straight on the community cards to thrust the tournament into heads up play.

Despite the duo making a deal around 10:30 p.m. local time, they each took the heads up match very seriously. Double up after double up occurred as the chip lead changed hands and the two competed for the trophy and the watch. On the final hand, Kuether limped the button and Garibli shoved from the big blind. Kuether called for his own tournament life and the hands were revealed.

Garibli: {K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Kuether: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The board came down {7-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{4-Spades}{a-Spades}{3-Hearts}, pairing Garibli's king and allowing him to win one of the most prestigious events of the year.

Joe Kuether limped on the button, Ilkin Garibli shoved from the big blind and Kuether called all in for 6.55 million.

Kuether: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Garibli: {K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

The flop fell {7-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{4-Spades}, giving Garibli a pair of kings to take the lead. Kuether needed to catch one of the remaining jacks, but neither the {A-Spades} turn nor {3-Hearts} river were any help, ending his run in second place for $1,050,000.

Oleksii Khoroshenin raised to 250,000 from the button and it folded to Joe Kuether in the big blind. Kuether three-bet all in for 2.21 million and Khoroshenin called for his own tournament life of about 1.78 million.

Khoroshenin: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Kuether: {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Khoroshenin was in a dominating position and looked poised to double heading to the community cards. The flop came down {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, however, giving Kuether a lot of hope with an open-ended straight draw. The {3-Diamonds} on the turn did nothing to help Kuether, but he drilled the winning straight on the river with the {10-Spades}. A distraught Khoroshenin took a quick leave from the tournament area while Kuether stacked his new chips.

Khoroshenin and Garibli are currently discussing a deal.

Scott Seiver Eliminated in 5th Place ($398,340)

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Scott Seiver - 5th Place
Scott Seiver - 5th Place

Scott Seiver was under the gun and he opened to 200,000. Ilkin Garibli was next to act and he popped it up to 510,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Seiver and he called to see a flop.

The dealer fanned {3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} on the felt and Seiver checked. Garibli cut out a bet of 630,000 and action was back on Seiver. He looked Garibli up and down.

"You look so calm," said Seiver to Garibli. "Like you don't have a good hand."

Seiver thought for a bit longer before announcing that he was all in over the top for 2.895 million total. This sent Garibli into the tank for about a minute. Ultimately, he quietly announced a call.

Seiver: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Garibli: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

"Please hold!" pleaded Seiver.

The {a-Diamonds} fell on the turn, giving the hand a bit more drama as Garibli could now make a higher flush with a diamond on the river. Unfortunately for Seiver, he was four-flushed in a key spot for the second time of the night after the {K-Diamonds} drilled the river. Seiver shot out of his seat in frustration while Garibli stared at the board with a stunned look.

Seiver was eliminated from play with a $398,340 payday while Garibli seized a commanding chip lead of 8.45 million.

Jean-Pascal Savard
Jean-Pascal Savard

Joe Kuether opened the action with a raise to 200,000 and it folded over to Jean-Pascal Savard in the small blind and he moved all in over the top for 1.01 million. As soon as the words left Savard's mouth, Scott Seiver shoved all in over the top from the big blind. Kuether folded and the hands were tabled.

Seiver: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Savard: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Seiver was in a dominating position and looked poised to reduce the field by one. The flop came down {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, keeping Seiver's jacks in the lead. The {9-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn, but it also gave Savard four to a diamond flush. Savard ended up making that flush after the {3-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. He was able to score the double to about 2.3 million. Seiver, on the other hand, dropped to 2.15 million.

Scott Seiver
Scott Seiver

Scott Seiver raised to 130,000 from the button and it folded over to Ilkin Garibli in the big blind. Garibli three-bet the action to 280,000, putting the decision back to Seiver. After about 30 seconds, Seiver announced all in for 1.625 million total and Garibli instantly called.

Seiver: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Garibli: {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

Seiver was behind heading to the flop and in dire need of help to stay alive. Fortunately for Seiver, everything turned around after the dealer fanned a {J-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} flop. Seiver flopped top set and was suddenly in a great position to double. Garibil found no help on the turn ({4-Clubs}) or the river ({5-Clubs}) and Seiver secured a double heading into break. Full chip counts will be posted momentarily.
