The final break of the day has just commenced. The 100 value chips are now making their exit, in 20 minutes the 500's will be the lowest denomination in play.
Eleven days ago, Dietrich Fast took down Event #2: €550 "Oktoberfest" No-Limit Hold'em at the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe, denying the UK's John Gale his second bracelet of the year while taking home €157,749 and his first WSOP gold bracelet. To do so, Fast outlasted a field of 2,144 entries.
Fast's rungood seems to have continued here at the EPT12 Malta as he's currently sitting on the big stack in the room, and most of it came from one big hand.
We picked up the action with 200,000 or so already in the pot and a board reading . Piotr Franczak bet 95,000 from the under-the-gun position, and Fast thought long and hard before making the call from the cutoff. When the completed the board on the river, Franczak paused for about 15 seconds before moving all in for 170,000, and Fast snapped him off with the for a flush.
Franczak sheepishly showed the and seemed frustrated that he suddenly found himself on the rail.
Meanwhile, Martin Finger, who was the first player to bust today and reenter, has been eliminated for a second time. Given this is a single reentry tournament, we wont' be seeing anymore of the EPT12 Barcelona High Roller champ.
We caught the action in what turned out to be a big hand for Yingui Li as he check raised all in on the turn on a board of . Bonomo, seated in the cutoff, had bet 88,000 and called the allin shove from his neighbor for just about 270,000 total with . Li shook his head and turned over . The river didn't save him and Bonomo doubled up.
Li had just 14,700 left after that hand, and moved in from the under the gun position the next hand. Paul Newey made the call from the cutoff and Ramin Hajiyev called from the small blind. There would be no side pot created on the flop of as both players checked. The on the turn made Hajiyev bet 19,600 and Newey folded.
Ramin Hajiyev:
Yingui Li:
The river on the river wasn't the card Li was looking for, and he exited the tournament area.
In the last hand before the level went up, there was already 100,000 or so in the pot and a board reading when Marvin Rettenmaier checked from the big blind and Thomas Muehloecker bet 42,200 from middle position.
Rettenmaier, as he is prone to do, took his time before making the call, and then checked the river. Muehloecker announced himself all in, which put the pressure on Rettenmaier, who was sitting with 130,300 back. The German hit the tank for several minutes before dropping in some chips to signify a call.
Muehloecker rolled over the for jacks up, but it was no good as Rettenmaier held a better two pair with the .
With approximately 30,000 in the pot and a flop of , two checks saw Huidong Gu bet 21,000. Jean-Noel Thorel called, and then Rasmus Vogt check-raised all in for roughly 50,000. Gu proceeded to move all in over the top, and Thorel folded face up.
Gu:
Vogt:
Vogt, who qualified for the event in a Thursday night €3,000 satellite, got it in good, but he fell behind when the spiked on the turn. The river failed to pair the board, and Vogt took his leave from the tournament.
Meanwhile, Berthold Winz was also eliminated from the tournament.
