Event 12 of the 2017 Aussie Millions, the $100,000 Challenge, was supposed to kick off at 2:10 p.m. yesterday, but that never came to be. With just Stephen Chidwick and Ben Tollerene registered at first, nobody was eager to drop in and start three- or four-handed play. There were more than enough players interested, but in the end the tournament was postponed.
The new plan is to commence Day 1 of the tournament today at 1 p.m. local time (in about two hours). As an incentive to have players sign up today, rake is slashed in half from $2,000 to $1,000 for the players that register before the start of Level 2.
Instead of the scheduled three-day event, the $100,000 Challenge has been turned into a two-day event. The final table will still play out after a four-day break on Saturday 28 Jan at 2:10 p.m., so players don't have to miss out and can still play the Main Event.
Boasting 60-minute levels with late registration and re-entries available until the start of Level 7 (most likely at the conclusion of the dinner break). This event has a shot clock format with players having 30 seconds to act on their hand. Players will be issued with two Time Breaker buttons at the start of both days of play. These cannot be accumulated and are each worth an additional one minute of time when used.
German High Roller specialist Fabian Quoss is the current defending champion after taking down the 2016 event for a cool AU$1,446,480 (roughly $1 million). He has told PokerNews yesterday, though, he will not defend his title since he hasn't played poker much lately and isn't up for a $100,000 buy-in event.

The action is still in its infancy but that has not stopped Sam Greenwood and Mikita Badziakouski from battling it out in back-to-back hands.
In the first hand, Badziakouski opened to 1,000 from the button with Greenwood making the call from the small blind.
Both players checked the flop and the turn with Badziakouski leading out for 1,000 on the river.
Greenwood check raised to 3,000 causing Badziakouski to hit the think tank. Being as players only have 30 seconds to make a decision it’s not long before the dealer announces time, just as Badziakouski pitches his cards into the muck and Greenwood rakes in the 3,400 pot.
The two players duke it out again the following hand with Badziakouski opening the cutoff for 1,000 and Greenwood three-betting to 3,000 from the button.
Badziakouski called and both players saw a flop of with Badziakouski checking over to Greenwood who led out for 2,200. Badziakouski called and the dealer burned and turned the .
Both players checked and it was off to the river, which brought the . Both players checked once again and as last aggressor Greenwood showed first, rolling over . Badziakouski tabled and he raked in the 11,400 pot.

As we caught the action, three players were involved in a still modest pot. All three of them checked on before big blind Dan Shak bet out 2,000 on the turn. Mikita Badziakouski, in the hijack, called and so did Charlie Carrel on the button. The river wasn't changing the board all that much and Shak bet 8,000 into the 8,600 pot. Carrel called and Shak was quick to show . Carrel tabled and they chopped the pot.
Carrel jokingly remarked he felt he earned more than half of the pot because he had two straights. The dealer did not oblige.
Registration for this event remains open till the start of level 7. After level 6 a 45-minute dinner break starts, so players still have the option to enter and reenter till the time for dinner ends. This should be around 8:30 p.m. local time.
With the entry of two more players, Greece’s Alexandros Kolonias and Canada’s Mike Watson play has paused for a redraw.
Had there been nine entries play would have continued on a single table but with ten entries this means two five-handed tables. Watch this space and we’ll update you as soon as play resumes.
