$100,000 Challenge

Dia 2 Começado

What Will the Final Number Be? We'll Find Out on Day 2 of the $100,000 Challenge

Will Isaac Haxton fire a sixth bullet?
Will Isaac Haxton fire a sixth bullet?

Welcome back to Day 2 of the 2014 Aussie Millions AU$100,000 Challenge. If you followed our coverage yesterday you already know how crazy it was due in no small part to the massive turnout of 66 entries! That's three times the total number from 2013!

Part of the reason that number is so high has been the willingness of players to fire multiple bullets. Two extreme cases are Isaac Haxton and Daniel Negreanu, each of whom fired five bullets into the event. Negreanu ended the day with 221,500 in chips, while Haxton busted for a fifth time and has the option to fire one more as registration is open until the start of Day 2, which is 12:30 p.m. local time.

Rumor has it that Tobias Reinkemeier will be back in the mix after busting, and both Sorel Mizzi and Scott Seiver may join up on their day off from the Main Event final table. Needless to say, the total number of entries could very well jump to over 70!

Day 2 will start with the 29 survivors from Day 1 plus any late stragglers. Leading the way is Mike "Timex" McDonald with 468,500, while Paul Newey isn't far behind with 428,500. Richard Yong, Antonio Esfandiari, and Phil Ivey round out the top five stacks.

The Day 2 table draw, prize pool, and payouts won't be made available until registration officially closes, so you will have to stay tuned for that information. In the meantime, check out this video of Melbourne's famed Night Market:

Welcome to the Party

The tournament staff has revealed that nine players have taken advantage of the late registration/reentry period. The numbers aren't official yet, but that would mean the 2014 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge would have 75 entries, of which 38 would be here at the start of Day 2.

Haxton Busts a Sixth Time; Seiver and Hansen Also Exit

Nível 10 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Isaac Haxton fired six bullets
Isaac Haxton fired six bullets

Of the nine players who entered at the start of Day 2, three have been eliminated, including Isaac Haxton who was in for his sixth bullet.

Haxton lost a race with {a-}{k-} against the {q-}{q-} of Patrik Antonius. Antonius is now up to 390,000 chips.

Seiver moved all in with {9-Spades}{7-Spades} on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, and David Steicke called with {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. The aces held up, and Seiver, who is among the seven finalists in the Aussie Millions Main Event, hit the rail.

Hansen was in great shape to double with {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} against Jeff Rossiter's {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}. The {3-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop kept Hansen ahead, and a ten on the turn would end the hand, but instead it was the {9-Clubs}. Hansen was now behind, and the {7-Spades} on the river was no help.

"I guess it's too late to rebuy," the Dane said before exiting.

Antonius Sends Vogelsang to the Rail

Nível 10 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

"All in and a call," is something we've heard numerous times here in the first 20 minutes of Day 2.

In a recent one, we made out way over to discover Christoph Vogelsang all in preflop holding the {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} only to run into the {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} of Patrik Antonius. The Finn paired his king on the {k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop, and while the German picked up a gutshot on the {10-Clubs} turn, he failed to hit it as the {3-Clubs} blanked on the river.

"Good luck guys," Vogelsang offered before exiting the tournament area.

"Make a Special Rebuy Rule for Gus"

Nível 10 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

"Well, that took about three minutes," Gus Hansen said as he walked up to Phil Ivey at Table 14.

Ivey and Hansen chatted for a bit, and the latter seemed itchy to reenter, though that time has passed. That didn't stop Ivey though.

"Make a special rebuy rule for Gus," Ivey told the tournament staff. "One more rebuy."

It was a valiant attempt for his friend, but his request fell on deaf ears. There's no doubt the tournament could have generated more reentries, but it's a little too late for that.

Seidel Dispatches Reinkemeier

Nível 10 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

We missed the action, but we do know Tobias Reinkemeier got his last 50,000 or so all in holding the {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} on a board reading {9-Clubs}{j-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. Reinkemeier held top set, but unfortunately for him it was no good as Erik Seidel, who finished tenth in the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event last night, had a straight with the {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}.

Reinkemeier could still win if the board paired on the river, but that failed to happen as the useless {5-Hearts} rolled off the deck. Like Gus Hansen, Reinkemeier wanted to reenter but was rebuffed by the tournament staff.
