Zhang's Hopes Crushed

Bobby Zhang got exactly what he was looking for. After a pre-flop raise by Amit Varma that was called by Zhang in position, the flop fell {6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Varma continued for 37,000 right into the face of an all-in raise by Zhang to 132,000. While Zhang silently waited, Varma, slowly cut chips off his stack, pursed his lips, and debated his action.

After a minute or two he threw the chips into the pot, saying that he figured he was behind. He was right. His top pair of nines, {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, was drawing thin against Zhang's {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}. But Varma got lucky on the turn, making trips with the {9-Spades} and crushing Zhang's hopes of a double-up and a final table berth. A blank {8-Hearts} on the river ended Zhang's tournament in 11th place. And with that, we are one player off the final table.

Shin The Shorty Out

Hyung Kook Shin was one of the shorter stack in the later half of Day 3 here in the APPT Cebu Main Event. His tournament has recently come to an end in 12th place as we are left just two spots away from the final table.

Shin opened it up to 18,000 from middle position and Kanaan three-bet to 45,000 on the button. It was now back on Shin and he would eventually four-bet shove his stack in. Kannan made the snap-call and the two players turned their hands over.

Kanaan: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Shin: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, no help for Shin meaning he was sent packing with a PHP 329,500 consolation prize.

Carter Gill Heads Home

Carter Gill’s two-day battle with his short stack has finally come to an end in unlucky 13th place.

After Hoang Anh Do opened the button to 23,000, Gill moved all in from the small blind for around 110,000. Action was with Jacky Wang in the big blind and he quickly motioned to the dealer for the triangle all-in button in a re-raise over the top. Do rocked back in his chair before finding a fold and the cards were on their backs:

Gill: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Wang: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

It was the pair versus the overs but Wang took a stranglehold on the pot when the flop landed {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to give him a set of eights. The {J-Hearts} turn gave Gill some hope with a straight draw but the river {A-Diamonds} was the nail in the coffin as Gill departs the poker room.

Eight Nine No Good

We aren't sure how the war went down on this hand, but it was Sameer Rattonsey in the small blind holding {a-}{a-} and Sungsik Bae in the big blind holding {9-}{8-}. At some point Bae got Rattonsey all in for just over 250,000.

The board ran out {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, with Rattonsey's aces holding up and him climbing up the chip leader board.

Folding His Way to a Final Table

"Whoa, slow roll?" said Carter Gill as his opponent took his time to call Gill's all-in. In the hand in question, Gill shoved for 59,000 from middle position holding {k-Clubs}{10-Spades} and Jae Kyung Sim in the big blind took his time to make the call with {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

"I never lose these," said gill as the board was spread {j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. He was right, he didn't lose and now he has doubled up yet again after spending the whole day as a short stack.

"I'm just gonna fold my way to third place," said Gill as he raked in his new chips.

Bobo Out in 14th

It didn’t take long for Bobo Chen to lose his remaining chips. He had about 60,000 left when he moved all in with {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades} but Sameer Rattonsey had him in bad shape with a dominant {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The flop was an interesting {q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} as Rattonsey hit top pair but Chen now had more outs with an open-ended straight draw. The turn was the {3-Clubs} and the river and equally bricky {5-Clubs} to see Chen fall just short of another APPT final table.
