Hong Hurting

Throughout the day we have chronicled just aggressive Ryan Hong has been playing. Well, its down to under half of the starting stack for Hong now after a recent hand saw him lose the majority of his chips.

It was all in preflop holding {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for Hong. His opponent held {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and by the time the board had ran out {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, Hong's chips would be going in the opposite direction to what he would like.

Where's Wally? Winning!

Wally Sombero, the man known as the Godfather of Filipino poker, is progressing well here on Day 1c of the APPT Cebu Main Event.

We caught Sombero raking some chips in a recent multi-way pot. Four players went to a flop of {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{7-Spades} where an early position player took a stab for 700. Sombero was his only customer as they went to the {K-Diamonds} turn. Action checked to Sombero who bet 1,250 which was enough to take it down.
Sombero is up to 52,000 approaching the last break of the day.

Vincent Stocking Up on the Rubies

Vincent Rubianes has been have a very productive later half the day, managing to pick up chips from every direction. We recently came to his table with a board showing {7-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Rubianes in the hand with one opponent.

There was well over 7,000 already in the pot at this point and Rubianes was busy firing out a small bet of 2,875. Rubianes' opponent was in the tank for quite some time, before eventually deciding to fold, sending the chips straight into Rubianes' stack.

Steicke Doing It Motown Style

David Steicke may have been the last registration for today’s event, but he is quickly making waves in typical Steicke style.

He opened with a cutoff raise to 775 and found one call on the button to see a flop of {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Both players checked and the {6-Spades} fell on the turn. Steicke bet out 1,500 and his opponent called before the {Q-Spades} landed on the river.

Steicke didn’t slow down as he tossed out a colourful 3,225. His opponent instantly called.

“Straight!” declared Steicke emphatically as he tabled a rather imaginative {5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. It was good to scoop the pot to move up to 29,000.

A Pot for One of the Good Guys

A small pre-flop raise from Wally Sombero induced Emi Hibuse and big blind Akira Ohyama. All three players checked a 9-high flop, {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. When the turn fell {k-Clubs} and Ohyama checked again, Sombero tried a bet of 1,600. Hibuse snap-called; Ohyama folded. On the river {9-Spades}, Somebero repeated his 1,600-chip bet. Hibuse thought for only a moment before surrendering her cards to the dealer.

Hong Relentless

Ryan Hong has been relentless in his aggression over on his table. Every time we wander past we notice that Hong is sticking in at least a three-bet and more often than not, a four-bet.

A recent hand saw Hong take down plenty of chips when he put in a five-bet to 9,200 after his opponent had opened and four-bet. The player looked rather annoyed and let out a sigh when he sent the pot to Hong.
