Bye Bye King Kiwi

Nível 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

We noticed that New Zealand's Paul "KingPaulie" Hockin was no longer in the tournament area and assumed he must have busted. Just to make sure we took to the internet and checked various social network platforms, eventually uncovering the story as Hockin wrote:

"Busto all in with Kk on a j 4 8 flop guy has 10s turn 2 river 10. GG Paulie, quickest ever bust out from a main event. Bring on side events slash jetskies"

While it wouldn't be the result he was looking for here in Cebu, Hockin can be very happy with his current online poker resume which includes a 3rd place for a six-figure score in the PokerStars Sunday Million just a couple of months ago and a win in the PokerStars Sunday 2nd Chance just last month.

Benton Busto

A short time ago, Aaron Benton was celebrating his beloved Collingwood Australian Rules Football team winning a big match in Melbourne today by just one point. However his joy has been short-lived as the 2009 APPT Sydney champ has just become our first high-profile casualty of the day.

The action started with a raise to 850 and a call by Spanish PokerStars qualifier Daniel Palau, before all eyes were on Daniel Laidlaw as he squeezed to 2,300 in the small blind. Benton was sitting quietly in the big blind and thought for several moments before making a cold call. The original raiser folded, but Palau came along to see a flop of {J-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Hearts}.

Laidlaw tapped the table as Benton led the betting for 2,800. Palau called as Laidlaw got out of the way before the {3-Clubs} hit the turn. Benton checked and Palau casually flicked out 3,000 into the middle. Benton looked down at his stack of around 13,000 and declared himself all in but Palau immediately beat him into the pot with a call.

“Ah, you’ve got me,” sighed Benton as he opened {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}. He was right. Palau tabled {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a flopped set.
The river was the {6-Diamonds} as Benton and Palau shook hands before the Aussie headed for the exit.

Team Pro On The Move

Team PokerStars Pro Raymond Wu has just managed to take down a hefty pot and we were there to catch all the action.

When the under-the-gun player limped, it would prompt 5 other players at the table to join in the fun as the dealer spread some cards along the felt.

Flop: {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

On the flop, play was checked all around the table to Wu on the button. Eventually Wu would make it 1,500 and after a couple of folds, the action was on the under-the-gun player. This player decided to pop it to 4,700 and more cards flew into the muck from around the table and it was back on Wu. After some though, Wu shoved all in, having his opponent covered. A call from the player and the two would turn their hands over.

Wu: {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Opponent: {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}

It was Wu's huge draw against the two-pair of his opponent.

The {a-Hearts} on the turn changed nothing, but the {10-Spades} that came on the river gave Wu the straight and more than enough to take down the nice pot.

Levy Lacking Chips

When we came to Grant Levy's table there was a completed board spread across the felt that looked a little something like this - {2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

Levy was first to act and tapped the table. His opponent then threw out 4,600 with around 7,000 already in the pot. Levy tanked for quite some time before deciding to call. When Levy's opponent turned over {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}, it was enough to send Levy's cards into the muck and some chips away from his stack.

Occy Rising

The action was opened to 700 by the player in the cutoff. The player in the small blind made the call and it was then on Octavian Voegele in the big blind. Voegele opted to three-bet, making it 2,400 to go. The cutoff player made the call, while the small blind got out of the way.

Flop: {j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

Voegele casually led for 2,500 on the flop, a bet that was enough to send his opponent's cards into the muck as Voegele wook down another handy pot.

How Many Today

Nível 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

The final number for the Day 1a field here at the 2012 APPT Cebu Main Event is 51 players. That number is quite low, but it is expected that the next two days of play will feature a lot more players.

Nível: 4

Blinds: 150/300

Two Chips and a Chair

Daniel Francis is now down to just two chips, followed a mistimed move in multi-way pot. The flop read {5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades} and action checked to a late position player who bet 500. The small blind called before Francis took the opportunity to check-raise both of them to 2,000. The late position player thought long and hard before folding, but the small blind took the opportunity to now re-raise all in for a total of 4,675.

The price looked good, but a stunned Francis clearly didn’t have much showdown value. He slapped himself in the head a few times before sending his cards into the muck.

His last two chips, one yellow and one green, are worth just 5,025.

Jesse Loses Small Pot

The action was opened by Jesse McKenzie to 425 and only the player in the big blind would come along for the ride as the {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop was dealt.

On the flop, McKenzie's opponent would lead for 550 and a call would see the {2-Hearts} hit the turn. This time McKenzie's opponent would check and McKenzie would throw out 700. It was back on McKenzie's opponent and he would instantly raise to 1,700. This bet would prompt McKenzie to get rid of his cards very quick as the pot was raked away from him.

Wang Takes One From Levy

We’re not sure how the pot developed, but we were called over to the table of Grant Levy when he was put to a big decision by fellow Aussie Jacky Wang on an interesting board of {10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. With a straight on board, but dangerous flush possibilities, Wang had moved all in to force the 2007 APPT Sydney champion to a major decision for most of his chips.

Levy took another look at his cards and sighed as he open folded his ace-king offsuit. Wang didn’t show as he raked in the pot to move to 23,000. Levy slips to 15,000.
